A PVR that's fast?

Are there any PVRs that react instantly to the remote control? I hate having to do the 'one press one second' thing. I want one that's more or less as quick as Sky.

Also a decent/modern/non-cluttered EPG would be great - is there anywhere I can view examples of EPG's online?

Re: A PVR that's fast?

I've don't have $ky and a 1-second delay is a small price to pay so as not to have to get it. I associate your intolerance with young male gamers which probably means you're Mrs Ponsonby-Fanshawe of the Midsomer WI.

Although each model PVR has certain characteristics and performance standards, they can vary from unit to unit. My slowest PVR is the Tiscali+ but it's got an excuse, in that its signal comes down the phone line. My "good" Vestel is not far from instant but my "bad" Vestel... the less said the better. The Topfield takes a slow blink. I think it's to do with signal reception and decoding, but have no expertise.

I suppose of one is using $ky and a Freeview PVR any delay on the latter could be irksome, but if one only has a Freeview PVR then one soon gets used to it and it's not an issue.

Youtube is probably best for some e.g.
MyStuff Topfield 5800
YouTube - MyStuff 6 demonstration, Topfield 5800/5810

TiVo
YouTube - The new TiVo search (BETA) is here!

Humax pvr9200

Re: A PVR that's fast?

Speed depends on what function you are trying to do.
Different machines can do different functions faster than others!

E.g. the Foxsat HDR is probably slowest to delete a programme, and only lets you delete one at a time

Topfield and TiVo can delete loads of stuff instantaneously through a hack

Sky+ doesn't cache its EPG data properly so even older machines seem faster!

If you go into file manager, press yellow to get edit mode you can select any nos of files to delete at one go. Once they are deleting you can go off and use the box while they continue deleting
