Angry LG RC7300 "Unknown disk" message

Bump-I received a LG DVD/VCR recorder. The VCR is working fine, and the DVD also for CD music.
Trying to read commercial standard video disks, I receive a stupid "Unknown disk" message.
I tryed to clean the lens without success.
Anybody knows what to do?
Many thanks in advance,
Emmanuel

I have searched the whole owner's manual without success.

'...received...'? Is the machine new?

The symptom indicates that the DVD laser is non-functional.

There is a separate laser for CD's - hence still working and which confirms that other aspects of the drive are functional.

If new - return the machine for a replacement.

Gavtech, thanks for your answer.
I received this machine from my brother (because it was not functioning).
It is not new but rarely used.
Where (in Europe) can i find a spare DVD laser?
Emmanuel.
