HUMAX Foxsat HDR HD sound issues

Had my HDR since release date and as far as I know have had no problems, until now... we have recently been recording BBC HD channel for Planet Earth and Life series and thought tonight as nothing to do we will start to watch them. Have a HD picture but no sound at all. All other programs that have been recorded recently on normal channels have both picture and sound.

Any ideas, as we have about 9 hours worth of programs that we cant watch

How is the sound produced is it by hdmi to your TV.?. The Hd channels use DD sound so try turning off Dolby Digital in the menus

Menu/Settings/Tv Setup/Dolby Digital

Re: HUMAX Foxsat HDR HD sound issues

All info is sent using HDMI to the amp then onto TV, I will have a play later on...

Right then, changed a few settings as suggested above and makes no difference at all, still no sound on BBC HD recordings but all good on SD. I have a 3806, model down from yours so should be the same settings, whats yours on?

Really cant understand this, as watching BBC HD have sound and excellent PQ but the sound is missing once recorded, where can I be going wrong???

This does sound like a problem with the hdr playback of Dolby Digital material over hdmi. Can you try outputting the digital sound using the optical spdif output (That's how mine is connected, the hdrs under the TV about 10M from the AV rack so the hdr hdmi is not routed by the amp which only supplies the TV over hdmi from my two freeview pvrs, bluray player and DVD player. (Occasionly I also connect a ps3 (grandsons) and my laptop as well). If there's no sound from spdif try an analogue connection from the rca phonos to check there really is some sound recorded. Next thing to try is a factory reset. There is one other thing you can do if you have not already done so add BBC HD to non-freesat mode by using manual tune (Make a note of your recording reservation list you will need to re-enter them - same for factory reset). The transponder you need is 10847 V 22000 5/6. If you have just tuned this you will now be in non-freesat mode otherwise go into non-freesat mode (Menu/Settings/STb Mode). Now turn the hdr into sby wait about 30 sec and reboot into non-freesat mode. Now start an instant recording of BBC HD (The preview loop is ideal) and record for about a min. Stop the recording and copy it to a usb drive. This recording(the .ts file) should play back on a PC with enough grunt if you have suitable media player software installed and it's fast enough to cope in any case even on a slow PC you will be able to confirm that there is a DD sound track on the recording. If you have not got a suitable player the free vlc player is ideal.

No you will lose your recording schedule, any non freesat channels you may have added and any changes to default preference settings
