Humax 9150 question

Hi all

I have had a humax 9150 for a year now and i am thrilled with it..does a cracking job...so my parents want one for xmas this year and i thought id get them the humax 9200 version as i thought it would be a better one still.

Anyways after reading some of the things on here i seem to get the feeling that the 9200 has a lot of problems with freezing etc.....so my question is, is the 9200 not as good as the 9150? or have i just been lucky with the 9150 and all humax pvr's suffer from this kinda problem??

thanks all

Chris

Re: Humax 9150 question

The PVR9200T is obsolete, replaced by the 9150 and 9300.
The 9200 has USB for connection to a PC and RF modulator output (the only benefits over the newer models), 160GB (or 320GB-PVR9200TBX from Humax Direct, if still available) IDE-interfaced HDD, and additional audio outputs.

The 9150 and 9300 are believed to be faster due to their evolved design.
The 9150 has a SATA-interface HDD (160GB) and low-power standby.
The 9300 also has SATA-interface with 320GB (or 500GB from Humax Direct) HDD and low-power standby. It also has the extra audio outputs.

I get the impression that it is mainly the 9300 rather than the 9200 which is getting most posts about the freezing issue. Typical thread here.

My question would be:

Has anyone thought or tried replacing the HDD to a bigger one, if yes, does it require any special drives etc?

Re: Humax 9150 question

Several people have changed the IDE drive in the 9200, for larger (500GB).
Some have fitted a IDE-to-SATA converter and SATA HDD. This too works.
So it is reasonable to believe a 500GB SATA HDD would be fine in a 9150, indeed the 9300 is offered with. Much larger and the programme index will run out of entries before the HDD space is used (for a typical mix of recorded programme lengths).

A CE drive (SCE for SATA, ACE for ATAPI/IDE) should be chosen.
Nothing else needs doing than to Format the new HDD in the Humax menu.

Re: Humax 9150 question

So it is not a normal SATA 2,5" HDD?
Could you please give me an example of such disk as I believe it is not standard?
