PSP 3000 Screen Issue - Explained

I keep seeing posts putting people off buying the PSP 3000, these posts are from people who have seen then hype about the 'screen issues'.

I have a PSP 3000 and it's not as bad as people keep making it out to be, and finally I have something worth quoting to backup my argument.

CrunchGear » Archive » PSP-3000 screen issue discovered

Quote:
The chaps who conducted the test, Logic-Sunrise, suggest you purchase an older PSP, but unless you hold the PSP 6-inches from your eyes, you probably will not see the interlacing issues so try out one of the new models before you buy an old one.
Which is exactly my experience, I hold the PSP about one foot from my eyes. I don't see the interlacing, and I benefit from the better colours and visibility that the PSP 3000 boasts.

It is like staring at a monitor point blank and seeing the pixels, you get far enough away you don't see the pixels anymore. Same with the PSP 3000.

I prefer the new screen with the interlacing (which you cant see playing at a normal view distance) than the old screen with the ghosting (which is visible from any viewing distance).

Re: PSP 3000 Screen Issue - Explained

Based on the comments here, someone else with a PSP 3000

Quote:
I currently own a 3000 and toyed with sending it back, but in honesty I decided to keep it. Partly because the scanline issue is only slightly noticeable at its worst, but less of an annoyance than the ghosting of the previous screens. The colors are more vivid and the screen is brighter. Just think of it as a tradeoff between ghosting and scanlines. For the games i own, even the fast paced and colorful ones, its not that noticable now that I have stopped actively trying to find it occuring.

I heard it's worse on some games than others, but in the 10 or so games I own, its not that noticable. In fact I did know there was an issue until I read there was, becasue even with the scanlines, the action is sharper in motion than it is on the old screen.

Re: PSP 3000 Screen Issue - Explained

I've watched a few trailers, and it is not noticeable unless you hold the screen 3 inches away and look for it.

Re: PSP 3000 Screen Issue - Explained

I have a PSP 3000 and it was the first thing that impressed me - the screen is excellent for both the UMD movies and for games.

It is true that the build does feel a bit "plasticy" now and the black model is pretty bad for finger smudges.
