Have a phat psp, want to get a slim for output to tv, have a question....
As title
I have a phat psp, and am thinking of getting a slim so I can run it via component to my tv in the lounge.
As I understand you can only use the component connection to play games on a TV.
I wondered if there was a component to monitor adapter that I could use to use the psp on a pc monitor also?
Or is there a cheap 15" pc monitor with a component input?
EDIT: or is there a way to get the games to run through the composite connection?
thanks
tris

Hi Tris,
A couple of items have been mentioned in a previous thread.
I don't know if these are any good but have a look here for a component to VGA adapter. Which from the looks of it has a switch that lets you change between PC input and PSP input for your monitor:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10530
Or you mentioned the composite connection, have a look below for a Madcatz cable that has a composite switch:-
http://www.play.com/Games/PSP/4-/530...e/Product.html
Hope that helps, J
EDIT: Looks as though the top one uses a USB connection for power so if you don't have a powered USB source available it may not be suitable (or you could buy an AC USB adapter, but thats adding to the cost again!)

The thing from dealextreme looks like ity would do the trick, are there any uk sites that stock that?
Would it support the games?
Or is this any good also?
http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...a-hd15-2m.html
I know about the cable that you mentioned from play, but we're unable to play games through composite I believe?
As for a ac usb power source, is this any good for it????:
http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...3USBADAP&af=50
Seems to be a lot of those ac adapter things about, but all say their for charging, would that matter????
Thanks
tris

Re: Have a phat psp, want to get a slim for output to tv, have a question....
Hi,
I have not seen the dealextreme adapter for sale in the UK, even a search on ebay doesn't list a UK one.
I believe dealextreme are based in HongKong, their site is in english and they list everything in US dollars . I know that sounds dodgy but looking at a few review sites they have pretty good customer feedback. They ship internationally, the only problem seems to be long delivery times for their free delivery option.
As for the USB adapter you mentioned, it looks fine the device takes DC 5.0v to power it which is what the USB adapter supplies.
Cheers, J
EDIT: Just noticed the TVcable cable you mentioned. Not sure that Hama cable would work as I think your monitor would have to be component compatible.
The dealextreme adapter has a few reviews on the site and a few mention the use of psp with it, and it appears to work very well.

So would the one from deal extreme require the monitor to be component compatable too?
Any more advice/comments?

The VGA-2000 from deal extreme actually converts the component signal to VGA signal for computer monitors.

Yeah, its a pity the PSP doesn't come with the component cable.
The PSP slims may come down in price in the next few weeks as the PSP-3000 is due soon.

Do games still have huge borders when output to a TV? I was looking at getting a Slim over my 'Phat' for the component output..

Unfortunately yes, games will display in 480x272 resolution so you will have black borders around the image. If your TV has some sort of zoom feature it may improve it.
I think the TV out feature is mainly for UMD movies or movies from your Mem stick as these WILL be shown fullscreen.
EDIT: However, I believe there is some sort of hack that now allows games to be played full screen, have a look here:-

So any idea where to get the homebrew app that removes the borders?
(and also states that it allows us to play games via composite too, whihch would be good for those out there that dont have an LCD, and irradicate my need to pay out extra for the afroementioned vga thingame )

I don't know, not even sure these forums take kindly to talking about hacking the PSP.

Ah, good point. Best leave it there then.
Though we do have a pandora kit circulating and instructions for it's use going around here:
PSP Pandora Kit for AVForums members
Since it's only about homebrew that makes the thing connect to a tv better, not piracy I would have thoguht it would be ok, but I'm not sure.
Better let a mod decide

I have never really got into the homebrew side of things but maybe somewhere like www.psp-hacks.com might be a good place to start.

I think the CFW program your looking for is FuSa - TV out from a Slim and Lite using any cable, composite, S-video and component.
The app has its own web site here
