Zen Pinball

I downloaded this and it's pretty fun, the online multiplayer is pretty addictive.

There are only four tables, but more will be available to buy in the future.

Online.
Up to four players race to a certain score, you have unlimited balls but some games have a score penalty for everytime you lose a ball.
If you have a webcam, you will show up on the other players screens - otherwise it will show your icon.

Local Mplayer
Alternating turns with another player to get the best score out of your three balls

There's an online tournament, but not sure when that's available.

There are trophies too.

This done by the same guys who did the very good Pinball FX on the Xbox. Think I'll have to pick this up.

I find that as well with modern pinball games. If there was just one camera setting, you'd just get on with it but if there's a choice I can never make up my mind

Had a quick look at the demo for this last night and looks promising. Didn't have time to play properly but will try to tonight if the missus gets of the TV at a decent time.

Still can't work out whether to get this.

For the price and no trophy support I'm wondering if my money is better spent else where.

Bought it last night and it's pretty good for £6.50 or whatever. It ranks well alongside other full price pinball games I've played. Theres's other DLC tables to come which will no doubt be paid for but I reckon, based on the full game price, they should be pretty cheap and good value.

It does have trophies, though I still don't quite get why people are somtimes a bit obsessed with them. I tend to just ignore them and play the games.

Not sure if a platinum trophy is available as I didn't look at the list.

Basically, if you like pinball games, it's a good 'un. Also has the advantage of always being on your HD so you don't have to swap disks to have a quick game. There's also trophy support if you want them.

I downloaded pinball dreams to my iphone, (only £2.99) and apparently, fantasies is in development. Plays really well! Maybe they will turn their attention to other formats after.

Re: Zen Pinball

They must've not updated the trophy page to include this game.

Not a trophy addict but begrudge paying over £5 for any PSN games unless they're either really good or got additional features whether it be trophies or online support.

The misses is playing the demo and it certainly brings back memories of the Amiga games

EDIT: The misses reach the maximum trial score so the full game got purchased.

Re: Zen Pinball

I played the demo last night and quite enjoyed it. One thing I didn't like was the view angle. It's ever so slightly too low even on the highest one. I can't really see the top of the table too well. I will be purchasing though as it's a great thing to just pick up and play if you have a spare 5 minutes.

I found the game has crashed for me a fair few times when trying to get multiplayer games, mostly it's crashed in the lobby and a few times midgame.

Single player and local play is fine. I hope they fix this soon!

Really liking this. Feels just like the real thing - there is a real weight to the ball. Need to give it a bit more practice though - i really suck at it. I did manage 13,000,000 on El Dorado but 12,500,000 of that was on one ball - the other 2 balls were much more in keeping with my usual scoring pattern

My wee boy (aged 3) is also enjoying it - i am slightly embarrassed to confess that in the one local multiplayer game we played he won!! I guess his technique of pressing the flippers as frequently as possible regardless of what is happening on screen beats my more "skillful" approach

Yeah i find it goes down the sides a fair bit especially on the V12 table, although if you time it right and able to spot it you can use tilt to knock the ball back in play, but as i say you need to spot it

I have been playing a few online games and it's pretty good fun although if someone has the 25% penalty for a ball drop switched on the game can take a while to finish if everyone isn't up to scratch, it's best with 10% or switched off imo.

Re: Zen Pinball

How is everyone getting on with this? I'm struggling to figure out how to unlock all the various moves. So far I've managed around 16m on El-Derado but that involved a flukey 10m shot!

No idea how I managed it. It's going to take time to work out all the moves. Guess that's part of the fun?

Haven't even moved onto the other tables yet until I get Ed-Derado sussed.

Any tips? The rule sheets aren't particular helpful.

The V12 table is the hardest imo.

I haven't tried mp yet as quite a few have mentioned issues.

Re: Zen Pinball

I'm liking Tesla and Shaman, haven't tried online yet. As above, they have got the feel of a real table pretty spot on. We had about 10 in a back room when I was growing up so it brings back a lot of memories. Had to turn the arcade effects off though as it didn't seem right. Would love to see some Williams and Bally games in the future. Not sure it would happen though but these ones in the game nod towards some of the originals.
