re: Outrun Online Arcade

Just downloaded it, when I went to install it I got the error 80029564 an error occurred during installation. I am downloading it again as I assumed the data has just corrupted but was just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I have downloaded lots of stuff from PSN in the past and not had a problem in fact I just downloaded the map pack for FEAR2 and the LBP costume update for this week fine.

This may sound a silly question so I apologize in advance. Is this online only or is there a single-player game as well?

Thanks

Yep, the traditional outrun single-player mode is there, also online up to six players (I think). No local multiplayer though.

This game is worth your cash on the strength of splash wave and magical sound shower alone!

Awesome game. Extremely polished and looks amazing in 1080p.

Trophy on first go.....finishing in automatic. Trophy on second go, doing 300kph for over 10 secs...

Love it

Now Sega, do the decent thing and get Daytona out in 1080p.....pretty please

Re: Outrun Online Arcade

I Posted my thoughts on this in the network store section but i'll post here as well, The PS3 version looks very much like a striped down version of coast to coast which I have on PS2 so i'm making some comparisons seeing as Sega have the PS3 version labelled as a full game.

Graphics : Well it looks nice nothing to flashy, coast to coast does have 60hz progressive support so it was no bad looker either, comparing the two the PS3 version of course wins out here being in 1080 HD but to be honest not that far ahead.

Audio : No 5.1 support why not, surly they could have added that in, good to see the classic tracks are here be it the Updated versions, no Arcade or 8bit versions that you had in Coast to coast as well as the updated ones.

Cars : 10 cars compared to coast to coasts 13 and no upgraded versions or stats which coast to coast had which means the cars all handle the same, the number of cars really isn't an issue but it would have been nice if they kept the stat element that coast to coast had so they didn't all play the same.

Tracks : 15 tracks are here, coast to coast had 30 15 American themed ones which is what the PS3 version seems to be using, and 15 original Outrun 2 arcade levels. It would have been nice to have those as well for the PS3 version but 15 is a good number so no complaints really.

Game modes : 3 in all,
Outrun: your basic check point racing that we all know and love.

Heart break : do tasks set by your girlfriend such as drive pass the cars with out hitting them, collect coins on the tracks or stick to a racing line.

time attack : ie finish a route in the quickest time.

these were in coast to coast as well but with the edition of coast to coast mode which was basically outrun and heart attack modes in one in which you earned money to buy new cars, paint jobs and other unlocks like new girlfriends and other bits n pieces. coast to coast also had the full outrun 2 arcade mode.

Online. had a quick go it plays very well, you can turn on and off various things like catch up collision etc and it's up to 6 players. coast to coast had this as well so it seems strange that Sega have online in the title for the PS3 version as if this is the first time that outrun has been online when its not.

Overall It's outrun and a great game, personally i would have been happy to pay more for a complete updated version of coast to coast as the PS2 version wont play on the 60GB PS3, but what is here is good enough.

apparently this is Xbox 360 exclusive in the US. US PS3 owners are really ******ed off because they can't play it but europe can. Why make a PS3 version if they arent going to sell it in the US.

I still use 'Magical Sound Shower' as my text message tone .

I downloaded this even though I've got the PSP version and the Xbox version and they're more or less identical.

Still enjoyed it on the PS3 though

I thought I must be really good, finishing the "easy" course first go, which I couldn't used to do! Then I looked at the options and noticed that the difficulty is set by default to "very easy"
Perhaps I'm not as good as I thought!!

Re: Outrun Online Arcade

The same game as Outrun 2 on the Xbox and Coast to Coast on the PS2 but still brilliant and well worth the £8.

It does seem a bit of a lazy port though, what with the last-gen menus, (very) occasional slowdown, reduced number of songs, (sometimes) lengthy waits to upload or retrieve scores, no custom soundtrack support etc.

It would be nice to have the option to mute people too. On the plus side: we won't have to endure many american teenagers shouting at us while playing online

I did the hard route first of all as the game is too easy anyway. Didn't realise the settings were default at very easy tho

Got all the trophies now bar the two time trials and the AAA on heart attack. Can score a AAA all the way thru then get an E on the last task....even tho I hit all the cones at the end (easiest route)....unless you have to miss them

The time trials are doing my nut in. I think I can shave the time a few more seconds but I'll still be about 4/5 seconds off the goal time.....and I think I'm pretty much doing a perfect run. How the hell is it gonna be possible!!?

Have you got the million points in OutRun mode trophy (can't remember the name)? If so how did you do it - it's doing my nut in.

I presume it's down to overtaking the rival cars, as you can get 12.5k, 25k or 50k for doing it - but there doesn't seem to be any reason behind it. Sometimes I'll cleanly overtake one and get 25k. Othertimes I'll nearly scrape the paint off it and get 50k.

Enjoying the game overall though - well worth £7.99

Sorry mate, totally forgot I posted in this thread. Yeah got both millionare trophys....you basically have to follow the route of whichever Rival is in front of you and try to do at least 3 a stage. I only just cleared the 1 million tho....the 2.5 million was alot easier.

Gonna hammer the AAA one tomorrow I think....it will be done!! the time trials however....that is gonna be too hard. I really can't see how I can do it any faster.

No probs, thanks for the reply. Funnily enough I finally did the 1mil trophy yesterday

Slipstreaming as many cars as you can helps, especially the buses as you get 15k each for them. Have tried the 2.5mil one but can't actually finish the full 15 course OutRun yet. I'm rubbish at racing games

What's the easiest way of obtaining the 300kph for over 10 secs trophy?

Loving this game - bargain @ £1.60

If only there was an option for local multiplayer

Re: Outrun Online Arcade

Yeah bargain at that price even though I already own it on PS2, PSP Much nicer to play on a big HDTV with crisp graphics.

The no local MP is poor, all racing games should have this. It is still fun to just pass the pad around and take turns - a bit like how we have to make do with GTA and Burnout.

I'll add your PSN and see if we get a game going - I havent tried online yet, went into a lobby the other day but had to wait for the race to finish before I join

Re: Outrun Online Arcade

I have been thoroughly disappointed with this game. I have never previously played it but thought that I would give it a chance being someone who loves driving games - including arcade-style - and am usually very good. I have found it far too hard, even though, apparantly, I am playing on the easiest setting. Thirty or so goes and I still cannot reach A!

As for the aforementioned menus: yes, very lazy indeed. And no local multiplayer is just a ridiculous omission.

Incidentally, would this game work with a Logitech wheel?

EDIT: Perhaps I am missing a trick. I do the drifting thing, but are their any other tips to doing well? Which car is best for a start?

Re: Outrun Online Arcade

I wasn't sure how to drift @ first, but I figured it out eventually - proper power slides!

I enjoy the simplicity of this game - makes a change not having to remember complex controls

Is there a way of checking which destinations you have already arrived at (in order to get the trophy for arriving at all destinations)?
I thought that checking the leaderboards would help, but they only seem to show online progress.

You rarely have to let go of accelerate.

When coming up to a bend, start to turn, simply let go of accelerate, tap brake, you will then enter the slide, hit accelerate again quickly and hold it, now you can direct the slide. Keeping on full lock will normally keep you in the same lane, letting off turning a bit will let you drift out (therefore dodging cars).

It really is a case of learning the tracks. I found it pretty easy, but I played the original a lot so that doesn't help. It does take a little while, but you will get the hang of it. Best bet is not to try and treat it like a car sim, it is all out arcade racing. Slipstreaming is the way to get most speed, so try to line up behind cars, then just pull out quickly before you hit them.

Choose the F50, the first car, that is the best all rounder.

You need to choose a tuned car and just do the first course and half of the second flat out without sliding. You just need to take the corners from the outside in and you should be fine.

Go to Time Attack mode and you get the option to pick normal or tuned cars.
