Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

Built on the Bad Company engine...so destructible environments and kick ass sound :

Battlefield 1943 coming to XBLA, PC and PSN this summer

Looks awesome, 1942 is probably one of my most played games ever on any platform, brilliant game...it would appear some old fave maps are making a reappearance too.

Pic of Bad Company 2 if you keep scrolling too.

Edit - seems I was too late, mods do what needs to be done

Coooool, that looks great!

Used to love Battlefield 1942 - was one of the first games I ever played online.

Hmmmm, not so good. Looks like they'll most likley pump out the DLC by the sounds of the end of the interview.

If it's the right price I still think it'll be a definate.

re: Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

1942 is a fantastic game and I got all excited when they showed 1943, but I'm disappointed.

I've waited years hoping that a 1943 would come out and be a proper sequel with 15 or so maps and full large scale 64 player wars, sadly only 3 maps and 24 players will not give the impression of a large scale war, 12 vs 12 on a large island will not work like a 64 player server would.

The small player limit with BC ruined that game and the BF series has just gone to the wind regards the console versions.

Maybe a 40 to 60 player one that would work on PSN but Dice are multi platform so they have to consider live.

I say give us 1944 now PC or PS3 with 100 players, large maps, plenty of levels and that classic full scale war feeling.

Will still buy it, it's just I wont expect too much.

Aaah, so that's what you meant by 1942 in the K-Zone clan thread. I was wondering cause I was sure 2009 - 37 did NOT equal 1942. lol

re: Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

After watching the in game videos I don't think I'll bother, I will check it out near release but from what I can tell it looks like a simplified arcade version.

Just 3 classes and everything seams like a quick select thing, drifting jeeps?, instant spawn to where the action is! obviously this is to mask the lack of players and to make it feel like the map has more people/action.

The guy in the video said most of the bushes and obstacles can be driven through as well? it all just seams like a arcade version that you would see down at the arcade in a big sit down cabinet.

Shame really as I think the audience is there for a proper sequel to 1942.

It uses the Bad Company engine so everything in the environment is destructable...buildings, trees, bushes....everything.

Far better then having a tank get stuck between two trees and creates a more epic feel when your in a building getting blown to pieces from a bombardment.

Have you not played Bad Company? Get the demo downloaded and try it if not!! Best fps on PS3 IMO...at the mo.

Also, not sure about the audience for 1942. I'd love it and I'm sure the 1942 diehards would but look at the reception CoD5 got from the rabbid 'Modern Warfare' fanboys. Sad really as there is more skill involved with older weapons like one shot bolt rifles...instead of spraying the area with every automatic known to man.

I really can't wait for this. I headed a BF1942/Desert Combat Clan many moons ago.
I've finished Bad Company single player so I can't wait for this. REALLY can't wait!

Live has some dedicated servers too. 50 player games work no problem on Frontlines. Problem is they cost money (on PSN and/or Live). Sony pays for the Resistance servers, for example.

EDIT: In fact, DICE will be using dedicated servers for both the Live and PSN versions. Shame it's 12 vs 12, but he maps will be suitably scaled.

unlimited ammo and regenerating health! I don't mind this. It forces you to find cover/hide if you're injured or run out of ammo, but it doesn't force you to find crates.

I hear what you're saying. This is definitely an arcade re-mix, if you like, but I think (hope) they'll retain enough realism to make it work.

Re: Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

I can't believe there isn't much interest in here on this... is it because it's in the PSN section? Maybe its the lack of a release date?

Does anyone know when we can expect it?

Re: Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

Really looking forward to this Not 100% sure why but the planes look really fun, hoping it's going to lean closer to battlefield 2 in how it plays but we shall wait and see.

Apparently it's coming this month, also it's not been discussed on this thread but once the community as a whole racks up 43 million kills a new map is unlocked based heavily (solely?) on dog-fighting (the plane kind, not the gypsy kind)

Hopefully the planes won't be too tough to fly.

The game is with Sony and MS for certification, so as soon as they clear it, we're good to go. I suspect it'll be the very end of June or the first week or so of July.

FYI the 43 million kills applies separately to each platform. Not good given the popularity of this thread.

I do hope they require a certain amount of skill to fly well, if only to stop everyone going for them. In battlefield 2 the jets were hard to fly but some people who really 'got it' could seriously fly in them.

Well if everyone in this thread gets the game, we only need just over 4 million kills each, troops let's get to work

$15 in the US, I'm hoping for £9.99 but you can bet on it being more like £14.99

If I were a betting man I'd say the map will be unlocked regardless. If it's popular and hits the 'target' then some good PR for them, if not it will be quietly unlocked in a patch.

Watch this space.

Re: Battlefield 1943 - Preview Thread

After watching the E3 videos I have to admit that I am more than a little worried about the 'tearing'.

I recently bought a cheap copy of Battlefield Bad Company and was surprised how much tearing there was in the 'Frostbite' engine and BF:1943 looks to be no better and if I am honest, worse!

All of the videos show a massive amount of tearing and if this is what the final product is like, I don't think I will get on with it.. I know its a minor thing, but for me, tearing is one of those things which really bothers me!

Fingers crossed it won't be as bad as a fear.

Jon

I truthfully think that its one of those things which some people don't notice (or perhaps can't see)... To me its obvious.

When i first got my 360 I was convinced that it was faulty, as almost every game 'tore'... But few people talked about it and I was amazed that software companies would let their games go out looking like this.

But it turned out to be normal.. I have found the PS3 to be far better in that regard, but the Tearing in the Frostbite engine stands out a mile and all of the videos of BF:1943 look awful in this regard!

But as you say, if you havn't noticed it before, don't look for it!

Cheers

I just had a little look around for a release date and found this:

N4G.com : Battlefield 1943 Release Date Revealed

Not looking good.. Apparantly, it was penciled in for the 25th June, now its "summer".. Don't think we are going to see it in the very near future!

Yes.. I saw it in Uncharted (demo) too... Its interesting, I wonder if there are really people who can't see this?

Thinking about it.. I can detect flicker, really badly.. If I walk around the office, most people run their monitors at 60hz and they flicker like mad.. But I seem to be the only one who noticed is and is bothered by it.

I wonder if its the same thing.. Perhaps people who are sensitive to 'flicker' also see tearing.. Where as some people simply can't see it at all?

Heres some in game footage to put your minds at rest, looks stunning to me. Kind of has a comic book vibe. Click HD to see it in all its glory
