Everyday Shooter - Play and Help THread

Just got this off PSN. It seemed ridiculously hard at first but i'm getting the hang of it and it seems to be getting better. Iknow a lot of people have been waiting for this so why not get a play and help going... I'm sure a lot of people will need it (the help)

I wish you could download demos of all the games like live arcade, I would love to try this before I buy it!

With the intertubes you can essentially see all there is via video/YouTubs, but yeah demos are good. Not exactly expensive though.

I think only Super StarDust HD does that (for PSN twin-stick shooters). I mean the whole point of Riff: EDS is the Rez-like music-game interactions, so it wouldnt mesh properly with your own tunes surely?

I'm getting stuck on "Worms"? i think it is level 7 and it seems to get really rough when all the flowers start cutting off your play-area, also i havent quite worked out how to chain the centipede/worms - anyone got any hints? I've only got 6 lives, on 11,000 points so about to buy the 7th, but i seem to get slammed on level 3 and lose too many lives there.

Re: Everyday Shooter - Play and Help THread

So whats this game like then?

Already have Super Stardust and Blast Factor, is this game too similar to those two to justify buying it? Even at the £5 price tag?

I need serious tips for this. Finding it so tough.

High score a pony 1003.

Re: Everyday Shooter - Play and Help THread

just downloaded this game and played for about an hour. only managed a top score of 469 but loved the tempo and play style of the game. i was well relaxed at the end of the session. however i reckon that might change in the future as i progress into the later levels.

recommended to all.

It's more like Geometry Wars with great music and a touch more strategy. As suggested above, take a look at some YouTube videos.

Very difficult but a wonderful game. Highly recommended!

I don't "get it" either. Other than the obvious play mechanics, I don't REALLY know what I'm doing. Which makes me frustrated because everyone's raving about this game, and all I see is I'm this dot shooting blops onscreen as the music changes. Everyone's having more fun than I am with this game. 'snot fair... I'm the Impercipient and that faiths by which my comrades stand seem fantasies to me.

Re: Everyday Shooter - Play and Help THread

It's a twin-stick shooter, but with a lot more reward for danger than most.

So for example; you could play the game concentrating on avoiding bullets/enemies till the time runs out and the level changes, but your score will be really low. Or you can go for highly dangerous moves, shooting nothing till you can make a big combo, but with a lot more chance of death and a bigger score. Or do a balance inbetween.

The other thing about Riff: EDS is the way you kill enemies changes/adds to the music track, much like Rez, so if you hit the big blobs on level two you'll get this repeating guitar riff crank out, and it merges into melodies with the soundtrack. In fact another legitimate way to play is ignore score and just try to make and experiment with making cool noises.

Once you get past the mechanics of just moving, shooting and working out the combos, you can chill to the music and game interactions. Afterall Riff:EDS isnt the most frantic shooter out there (re: R-Type etc) which means you get more time play with scoring and enjoying the tunes.

Shouldn't this now be in the PS Network Games subforum?

Btw, anyone noticed distortions in music? Like it's clipping most of the time. I've tried it through tv and receiver - all the same. Especially noticeable when there is a big "bang".

Happens mostly on Level 2 (at least it does for me). Seems to be a problem with the audio engine, layering riffs on top of each other.

If you turn the in-game volume down to say 40%, and then crank your TV or amp, it's seems to ease the problem.
