International Track & Field

Hey,

What a game this is! OK, all of the disciplines are reduced to button-mashing and a well-timed button press but it's just so much fun with a few mates. And at €5 I can't recommend this game enough.

If you share my enthusiasm for ITF this thread is the place to boast about your Personal Bests, share your injury stories and give tips on how to mash that pad!

I'll get around to posting my PBs later but for now let me tell you how I hold the pad for most of the events: I hold the pad at a right angle to the way one usually holds it (i.e. so that the square button is closest to me and the circle button is the furthest away from me) and then hit square and circle with my thumbs.

I assume it's the PS Konami title.

I would so love them to release the original arcade Track and Field and Hypersports with online, very playable.

I think it's been available to download from the Playstation Store for well over a year now. It's a PSOne Classic, think it came out in 1995 or something. The graphics are not much to behold and the music is almost endearing it's so dire, but the core gameplay is so simple that it's almost flawless in that respect. If you've never played it and you have a few mates you can play local multiplayer with give it a shot, you can't go wrong.

Ahha.. I understand now.. Doesn't appeal to me.. Track and Field is with out a doubt one of the all time classic games.. But when I have friends round, we end up playing it on my MAME cabinet instead.. I have never found any of the 'remakes' to come anywhere near the original..

You have the original coin-up, the one that was ported to the NES? That's awesome! Must have cost you a fortune though.

You'd probably find that the PS1 version is almost identical to the original minus the improved graphics (not that they look any good these days!).

Not exactly.. But almost.. I have a 'MAME cabinet'... So it runs Track and Field EXACTLY as the original.. You would not know that it wasn't the original version unless someone told you. It plays EXACTLY like the real thing.. It LOOKS exactly like the real thing.. And because of the way MAME works, essentially it IS the real thing...

I have attached a few photos:

That's pretty slick. I bet I couldn't tap those buttons half as fast as I can with a Sixaxis controller though!

Was playing this last night actually and beat my 100m world record. Did it in 8.10 seconds. Also beat my 100m freestyle record and the long jump world record my friend previously held, as well as setting a new record in the 100m hurdles. So all in all a pretty successful day (or waste of a day, depends on which way you look at it).

Re: International Track & Field

Am I the only one who thinks this game is any good?

Anyway, here're my world records, for what it's worth:

100m sprint - 8.10 seconds
100m freestyle - 43.60 seconds
110m hurdle - 12.47 seconds
High jump - 2.46m
Hammer - 97.83m
Triple jump - 18.62m
Discus - 81.93

I haven't beaten the COM-set world record in the long jump, shot put, javelin or pole vault.

If anyone has any tips for the javelin that would be handy, I can't seem to even get close to the record.

If this is really the same as the PS2 version, I do remember one tip. You can use a fat marker pen, to 'rub' across the buttons to get some insane speeds.

Thats the only tip I can remember...

Re: International Track & Field

I used to love this on the PS1 but broke about 4 pads playing it.

It is for this reason i don't think i'll download it as the PS3 pads are simply too expensive to replace....Shame

I was able to throw the javelin out the stadium when we played this on the ps1, I developed a 'special' 2 thumb teknique, It ate pads though. . Wish this online.
