Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

Has anyone purchased this game yet from PSN?

I played the demo and thought it was pretty good. I can see how it will be very tactical on what units you deploy/upgrade and when.

However, the game is very basic graphically, I presume this is a port of the iphone version.

I feel that £7.99 is a little much to pay for this, I also think this would work much better as a PSP game.

What do other people think?

I agree with you. I was playing the demo earlier today and also thought it was pretty good but 8 quid is a bit much to ask for something that looks like a super nintendo game

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I played the demo and thought it a poor rip-off, most likely trying to get sales from the name / Final Fantasy associations.

Both Pixeljunk Monsters and Savage Moon are far better PSN tower-defence games.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I found it pretty annoying that you couldn’t cycle between your units by using the shoulder buttons or something, you actually have to move the cursor to it with the d-pad/stick.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I bought it cos I love Tower Defense games, regardless of graphics, it is actually quite difficult on the first level to get perfect. I creamed it in the demo first time, but the full game seems a little tougher.

I love the FF Tactics series so for me, the graphics are fine.

Based on my hour of playing it, I would give it a 7 or so. Maybe a little expensive, but still not that much money for what looks like a good amount of playtime ahead.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I also purchased this because i love tower defence games.

I agree £7.99 is a lot, but as also said the first level is difficult to get perfect. That in itself makes for decent replay value.

There's three game versions to play, I've only looked at the first one so far, and I've only played two levels multiple times trying to get better scores.

Wingy, look away now because I like this game as well.

Must have playe the demo about ten or so times. Got perfect a few times, but it's interesting how you can hone your strategy to come up with a different, and better, way of doing things.

£8. Hmm. Two beer tokens. I think I may be able to handle that.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

One great feature is that you can fast forward each round. It is really annoying on Monsters for example, where you have to play 15 mins through a level just to get to the place you are stuck.

I have found this is a good game to play for 30mins at a time.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I admit I got a little addicted to the demo, I got perfect on my first attempt.

I loved the fact you could fast forward the action and watching your dudes pick off the monsters.

I just have this nagging feeling that this is a bloomin mobile port!! I cant believe that they have put more into this then for example 'shatter' which is a very reasonable £4.99.

Anyway, I may end up buying it just to satisfy my old school tactical urge.. but Im reluctant due to the graphics etc.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I got to level 13 last night trying to get the perfect game going, and then I had dinner and so I quit out so we could watch some south park.

Well anyway.. my tactic was thus.

On the first level on the left hand side, on the double width vertical strip I placed a monk for the first level.

Upgraded the monk for the second level, then a few kill in placed a thief just below it. For the next level I added another monk, which I think I upgraded throughout the round.

So I have

lvl2 monk
lvl2 monk
lvl1 thief

I think there's a physical resistant 'marshmallow' coming up for which I just added a black mage, also in time for the fast cats I added a white mage above the monks. Then in time for the flying level I added an archer, then I added a standard warrior for the tougher round with 4 monsters.

Obviously I upgraded them throughout, but by level 13 I had something like

lvl1 wmage lvlx bmage
lvlx monk lvlx archer
lvlx monk lvlx warrior
lvl3 thief

I was obliterating the rounds and the thief was picking up lots of dosh.

Re: Crystal Defenders - Play & Help Thread

I have to say I'm really enjoying the game, and glad I parted with the £8 as (for me) it's well worth it.

Gotten perfect on all the W1 games, and just got perfect on the third one down of W3. But my God it's not easy. Not looking forward to the W2 advanced games.
