Only potential problem could be a HDCP handshake issue with the monitor only having a vga connection.

thanks for the reply. Not familiar with the terminology....what is HDCP handshake? is it possibly more jerking? or ghosting?

HDCP stands for high definition content protocol/protection,it could be an issue with the vga connection on your monitor.I know hdmi to dvi were problematic.

Basically means you won't see a picture.

I don't think you can do hdmi to vga anyway. Not without a cable involving circuitry to convert digital to analogue. hdmi is all digital, vga is analogue. You can get hdmi to dvi and dvi to vga because dvi is both digital and analogue. so it doesn't matter about hdcp anyway as its not going to work from the outset.

Re: can i play ps3 on LCD monitor? via HDMI-VGA converter?

You could use a converter like the HDFury Gamers Edition. I used one for several months to play my PS3 on an older LCD TV which displayed 720p but did not have an HDMI connection.

The HDFury means the HDCP issues don't matter. The only problem I had was that my TV wouldn't allow the PS3 to upscale normal DVDs (though I could still watch them in standard definition). Apart from that it was excellent, and the only reason I stopped using it was that I bought a new TV.

Just a couple of points to note though:

1) It's not cheap (see link: http://www.thegametrain.com/hdfury-g...ble-p-487.html)
2) It may cause the fan noise on your PS3 to increase. Since having my new TV I've noticed I can watch blu-rays now without the fan kicking in really loud. It always used to go loud when using the HDFury. That could be because the HDFury is powered by the PS3.

Theres a cheaper alternative on ebay but you'll need a hdmi to dvi cable as well;

HDFury 1080p HDMI/DVI to VGA CONVERTER HD FURY BLUE UK on eBay, also, Video Cables, TV Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 18-Jan-09 22:24:03 GMT)

If your interested I suggest make an offer of £18 and also use quid-co to reduce the price a bit.
