Re: PS3 5.1 surround sound problem

Having done a bit of research it does seem to be a problem with 5.1 output from blueray. Guess I'll just be patient and hope the next update solves it. I can't use a optical switch as I have not only Xbox but V+ going through my tv to surround sound.

Re: PS3 5.1 surround sound problem

I'm not sure there's anything to be solved... If you connect to your amp direct with optical then it'll work... As you say you have one optical input and 3 devices, could you not get a 3 into 1 optical switch?

Re: PS3 5.1 surround sound problem

Surly if a PS3 will play 5.1 in games, 5.1 playing back dvd but won't play just 5.1 in blueray then that is a problem. It's a problem for me anyway.

Re: PS3 5.1 surround sound problem

no, i didn't mean that you don't have a problem - i just meant i don't think there is a "bug" or something that will be fixed in a firmware update.

The problem seems to be with routing the higher bitrate of the dd / dts core tracks through your tv, via digital coax, to your amp. It's either the tv or the digital coax cable at fault.

So the solution, if you have one optical input but three optical sources, is a 3 into 1 optical switch.

You don't have to waste money and buy it not knowing if it will fix it. If you try the ps3 direct to your amp with optical and you get your 5.1ch from blu rays, dvd's and games, then you'll know you will if you connect it, along with your xbox and v+, through the optical switch.
