Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

Hi all

Best price I can find for a proper DS3 is £30+ which is a bit high for me right now - and tbh seems a bit steep for a pad, particularly as I've already got 4 PS2 pads and a USB to PS2 adaptor which doesn't seem to work with the PS3.

So, what's a good cheaper pad for the PS3 with motion sensing ala Sixaxis and ideally rumble?

Cheers

DM

they're 29.99 in zavvi, that with the closing down 10% off and i'm assuming the new vat rate, you'll get it well below 30quid.

There's nothing as good as the ds3 in my eyes. All the madcatz/logitech controllers are oddly shaped/designed, lack asthetics (adhering to my ocd ) and aren't that much cheaper than the real deal.

Good luck finding one though. My Zavvi haven't had any in stock in ages!

Yeah, same problem here. Was hoping to grab one last week but no joy. And I heard Asda had them on sale for £27 but my local... £37

They're not even cheaper online in eBay, Amazon... rare to find a product that seems to be so consistently priced everywhere. Hence looking at alternatives.

Re: Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

To be honest i haven't heard anyone try a third party controller and prefer it to the dualshock3, or even for it to come close. It would appear that in general they're not very good at all. To get one that's wireless, motion sensing, and force feedback, for much less than £25 is unlikely too imho...

Re: Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

Again, fair points.

But without any in Zavvi I can't actually see anywhere that's got them for £30, let alone less. And when they are so many "alternatives" on eBay, I figured it was worth asking if any of them are any good.

Re: Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

I'm just looking for a cheap wired controller for now and then, like when a mate comes round.
I've seen the Logic3 wired game pad for around £9.50 at the Amazon Marketplace.
Has anyone used this? Is it adequate for occasional use on the PS3?
Thanks

Try this gadget it allows you to connect a wired xbox360 controller to your PS3. I have just ordered one from the TOTAL CONSOLE link and it works out about £38, if its crap i'll ebay it, but i prefer the xbox controller to the PS3 one so its got to be worth a try.

Re: Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

I sold my spare DS3 to a mate and went looking for a cheap alternative. Had to go back to him cap in hand and ask him to sell it me back as there is nothing which does the job adequately. Argos have a deal on for a half price 3rd party controller when you buy a game, ie Mirrors edge and a controller works out about £31 - but they have no stock (in any of my local stores anyway), and delivery is £6 (I think).

Might have a look at that xbox link.....

ps which finger do people use for R2? 1st finger (alternating with R1) or second finger with first finger on R1. I tend to alternate.....

I use my second finger. I used to alternate like you do, but since getting by Gioteck real triggers, I find it easier to have seperate fingers on R1 and R2.

C'mon, surely someone's played with a Logic3 game pad! Anyone?

Be sure to let us know how you get on - if it works i'll definitely be looking to get one.

Yep, nothing comes close. If I couldn't afford a DS3 I would happily lose the rumble and get an official sixaxis instead, they're that good.

Re: Best alternatives to Official DualShock 3?

Dual Shock 3 delivered for £29.00

https://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyl...02BC29B71)/.do

But...even though the web page shows it in stock...the order confirmation screen says they're 'Temporarily out of stock' .

For the record, the email confirmation doesn't say anything about availibility.

Anyway, thought I'd share as although it's still close to the 30 quid mark, it's actually under and not a bad price. I'm hoping Sony will honour the £29 - but if I find cheaper I guess I can always cancel.

Update: in case anyone cares, it's actually been dispatched from Sony...so there may be other stock available.
