I'm worried my siblings will destroy my PS3

Right, My parents brought me PS3 on Christmas and they said if it is broken i will never ever get a games console. I have 2 siblings My brother which is 9 and my sister which is 6 and my sister today almost bent SVR09. Anyone have tips?

Quite obviously dont leave the console and the games where they can get to it.

show them the console even let them have ago and state to them the value of it and how the console its self is not to be touched, if they see you respecting it tell will do the same

Thanks for the quick replies, Neither of my siblings respect me. Problem is they have to play it and I can't keep the PS3 out of reach. Good thing is I hardly go out. I was thinking of teaching them how to use the console.

If you make it some forbidden thing they'll be more likely to try and use it without knowing how to, and it might get damaged. I agree with the idea of showing it to them, how to use it, and explain how valuable it is. Perhaps then they'll treat it properly if they do use it.

Either that or a safe!

I agree, if you show them how much fun it is and maybe get them a game to play then why would they want to break it.

My little brother is 9, he can use my PS3 without a problem. Turning it on/off with the controller or buttons. Loadings games, quitting games, even looking at his trophies.

I've only showed him the basics and how to hold the discs without leaving finger marks on them but its been enough, he's looked after it and I have no issues with him playing with it when I'm not around.

So my advice would be to show your brother and sister how to use it.

My son (4) plays and uses my console with total respect, he puts the games in and takes them out, i think this maybe a case of there up bringing if there is no discipline they will do anything.

I always thought that a sibling was your own child? Anyway, make sure that they don't shove anything in the slot, I remember reading about a coin being put in there.

Get LBP, your bro and sis will love it and you will too! They will learn not to mess with the PS3 because it means risking messing up LBP

My mate has got young children, He kept the box for his ps3 and packs it up EVERY SINGLE TIME! He left it out on one occasion and it got water spilt on it and had to dry out the cd slot with cotton wool buds!!

My advice is share the ps3 with your Brothers and sisters (I think they'll respect you a whole lot more if you share your ps3 with them!

) but also pack it away because accidents happen and younger brothers / sisters can tend to be unintentially clumsy

If you really look after it, and share, your parents will notice this which bodes well for future presents!!!!

You have my sympathy.

While you can try and include your younger brother and sister while playing the PS3 and educate them on how to look after it this is something that should be done by your parents, and not by you. They're the responsible adults (or are supposed to be) and they are responsible for educating all of their children on how to look after and respect things.
If the PS3 gets broken by either your brother or sister then I fail to comprehend how that can be your fault.

never turn it off at the switch at the back when it is playing, cause it will fry the bluray diode. always power down safely

Yeah, if you need to turn off the switch at the back, power it down from the front first, then turn the back switch off

My brothers a nightmare he has always wrecked my stuff. When I got round to getting a new xbox I did the brotherly thing and gave him my old one......RROD within a week !

In all seriousness. Your parents bought it for you and obviously appreciate the value of it. Explain your concerns, suggest moving the console to your bedroom (at this point it might be a good idea to ask for an LCD telly aswell) No way an expensive bit of kit like a ps3 should be in reach on kids, I would even offer to buy them a PS2 (you should be able to get one on the classifieds cheap as chips).

If all else fails sign up for Continuous Play from Sony. Its basically insurance for your PS3 which will cover you in the event of damage by kids.

It does seem a little unfair to give you all the responsibility and none of the tools to allow you to be responsible.
An example would be to give you a place to safely put it away (with a lock). If it gets mashed and you haven't put it away then it would be your fault.

Hillskill's idea of the 'continuous play' insurance from sony is a good idea. Maybe you could negotiate for it as an early birthday pressie?

p.s. If you get your dad into playing with you on your ps3 I'm sure he'll have something to say if it gets broken

i live at home with 8 kids and there simply banned from the front room, but on occasion they do come and have a go they treat it with respect from the oldest (17) to the youngest (4), it's all about giving and as long as they understand if they treat it bad they will never even look at it let alone touch it, as kids are kids they do the exact opposite of what there told

Remember you should have a warranty on it so if anything does go wrong then you can send it back.

To TheToxic360. I agree with you having responsibility for your PS3. It's yours and you have to look after it.

However the responsibility for your siblings behaviour rests with your mum and dad. If they can't accept that then all you can do is look into the continous play option and hope your brother & sister don't do any damage.

By the way, my almost 2 year old son has taken to throwing stuff at our LCD TV (small soft toys, light plastic balls) - so far no permanent damage but I'm considering holding you responsible for it if he does happen to break it.

Of course that would be completely ridiculous, but not much more so than anyone else holding you responsible for the behaviour of their children. Including your parents!
