Video Cutting in and out on PS3

I am having issues with my PS3 and my Yamaha RX-V3800. Here is what is happening....

When I am playing a game, everything is fine, no issues. (UPDATE-started doing it some in games now)

But on the "home" or "main" menu of the PS3, the screen will flicker to black and then back to the correct screen. It will do this off and on and sometimes not at all. I did notice that each time the screen flickers to black, the receiver jumps from displaying SUR Decode PCM (shows the diagram of all 8 speakers) to SUR Decode PLIIx Movie (shows diagram of 2 speakers).

So again...while displaying the home screen of the PS3, the screen will jump from the correct image to black and then back again and when it is working properly, SUR Decode PCM is displayed on the display of the receiver and when it goes "black" the receiver displays SUR Decode PLIIx Movie.

The PS3 is connected via HDMI to the receiver. I know this can be a can of worms with the settings on the PS3 and the receiver, but any help would be much appreciated. It is driving me nuts! Thanks!

Sounds like a loose hdmi cable, maybe give the cable a giggle each end, if not try a replacement cable?
