PS2 GTA San Andreas on PS3 80GB UK PAL?

I've got a 80GB UK PS3 and I'm wondering if I bought the PS2 version of GTA San Andreas it would work on my PS3?

no you need a 60Gb PS3 for backwards compatibility

as I said above the answer is no but I just found this website and all though it is in the USA and checks the compatibility of US games and a US PS3 it says - no major problems for this title

if your picking it up second hand for a few quid then I'd say go for it, but don't expect it to work in the first place, and if it does don't expect to get through the entire game without it crashing

I have a 60GB US PS3 and want to buy PS2 Richard Burns Rally.

If you look on the back of the box it says quite clearly 'this machine is not compatible with playstation 2 software'

simple really, the only uk machine with ps2 backwards compatibility is the 60gig, which they stopped making in 2007.
