PS3 connection to Monitor Help Required

Hello To All,
Would much appreciate any advice you can give with this problem, I've googled and am still confused, so hoping you guys can assist !

I have an IIyama E431S LCD monitor, with 2 connection sockets. 1 is D-Sub mini 15 pin, the other is DVI-D 24 pin. (i don't believe it is a digital monitor, it's approximately 4 years old)
I would like to connect this to the PS3 so I can download the latest firmware from the internet as some of the movies I'm watching on the plasma tv now are not loading, I don't use the PS3 for gaming on the monitor so quality on screen is not an issue, I just need to connect everything together download the firmware and move the PS3 back to its space next to the tv ( the internet connection is in a different room from the TV hence the problem!)

Cheapest option would be ideal ... and thankyou for any help you can give !

You need a HDMI to DVI cable to connect your PS3 to a monitor, but DVI is only for picture so you'll need to connect your ps3 audio outputs to a speaker for sound.

many thanks bla5er, I wasn't sure if my monitor was too old to accept the signal from the PS3, but i'll get hold of the HDMI -DVI cable and see how it goes !

One word of caution, if you use HDMI out from the PS3 it expects to see HDCP on whatever it is connecting to.

No HDCP then no picture.

Highly unlikely that your old monitor has HDCP so be prepared for a blank screen.

I suggest we move this over to the PS3 forum for some experienced input as there are solutions but they all have some drawbacks.

Just tried this with my iiyama e481s, blank screen using DVI to hdmi wire.

If you just want to update the firmware, you can download the latest firmware onto a usb stick (fat32 formatted), SD card or memory stick, and do a update via storage media, instead of network.
Just check out Official PlayStation website: System Software to get an idea how to do it.

sides beat me to it, but ill add that you also burn the update to a CD/DVD if you dont have a USB stick.
