Hi all, got quite an old surround sound system that has no optical in/out but does have Coaxial in and out. Got a PS3 recently and as you know that only has the optical port.

Anyone know what kit I'd need to get PS3 through surround sound?

you would need something like this from maplin to get surround sound outputing to your amp.

Discount OPTICAL TO COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO CONVERTOR. Buy online @ Maplin.

If you have an HDMI equipped TV, get an HDMI equipped A/V amp/reciever that can do the current HiDef type sound formats.

You might even be lucky enough to own a TV with an optical input that can do surround sound.

Failing that, any cheap A/V amp/reciever that will do DD or DTS. You'll miss out on the HiDef stuff, but at least you'll be on your way.

To get ps3 audio through your amp you'll need an optical / digital coax converter, but you won't get hd audio, just whatever your amp can decode - dd / dts. To get hd audio you'll need an amp that'll take audio over hdmi.
