One really strange issue that has defeated me

We have two PS3’s and have the same three user names set up on each PS3.

Right, now get your heads around this because I can’t and need help.

On one PS3 only and while using one of the usernames, when loading the game COD WOW the PS3 goes into the load screen but after 10 seconds the screen just goes black. If the disc is ejected the screen stays black. The PS3 then has to be rebooted. The PS3 is fine on other usernames and the user name and disc works on the other PS3.

What the hell is going on as I just can't see the logic of this problem

Sounds like the game data has corrupted for that user....you'll need to delete it, but you'll lose any game progress.

game data and save data are two separate things in two separate folders, just delete the game data one, you would have to download any updates that there were again but you should be able to play.

If that doesn't work then it could be the user that is corrupted in which case delete the user and add it again in which case you will loose everything for that user.
