Question Hooking up PS3 to Sony KDL40V4000? :S

Hi all, my first post - yey!
hope you ladies and gents can help..
I purchased the above TV (KDL40V4000):
I'm now going to purchase SONY DAV-DZ260 surround sound system.
When I get this I will hook up the TV, PS3 and the surround sound together, but I have no idea of how to do this.. should I:
* Connect the PS3 to the TV via. HDMI
* Connect the PS3 to the Surround Sound via Optical

Would I then need to connect the Surround sound to my TV via HDMI? if this is so why would you have to do this... I don't understand
and finally lets say that the above setup is correct, when I play games movies etc will I get sound from the TV OR Surround sytem OR both? if both how do I stop the sound comming out from the TV speakers?

Thank a millions people

Re: Hooking up PS3 to Sony KDL40V4000? :S

if you go the optical out route then you will only get sound from the amp when its on & nothing from the TV and vice versa via HDMI,

you can only use 1 sound source

Re: Hooking up PS3 to Sony KDL40V4000? :S

I have HDMI going from PS3 to TV, and then optical out going into the surround sound.

Sound comes out the TV and the surround sound, as the speakers are close to the TV, i only use the surround sound when gaming.

This is on an LG TV, you should be able to fiddle around with the channels and get it how you want.

To have the surround sound working and the PS3, i think you need to use both HDMI and Optical out.

This is just my setup, it may be different on other setups.
