PS3 Out of Range message when quitting game

When i initially set up my PS3 at home on a Sony 40v4000 via hdmi lead i had no problem installing and connecting to a wireless

I then took my PS3 down to my residence at work address and hooked it up to a Sony 32v4000 via a hdmi lead. I can play games no problem but when i quit game to go to xmb bar to try to connect to internet, the screen flickers and then "out of range" message appears.
Reading other forums it seems as if i have wrong settings, i.e. 1080 or 720, but my tv is set up for auto detect so surely i shouldn't get this problem.

Any suggestions?

Re: PS3 Out of Range message when quitting game

are you talking about connecting to the internet or to a t.v? I'm not quite sure as you're talking about wi-fi one minute then the model/make of the tv you're connecting it to the other.

They're both two different things, not sure why you're confusing the two.

720/1080p refers to the screen resolution and has absolutely no bearing on your internet connection.

Sorry, i believe the message refers to the tv/ps3 settings. I was attempting to set up internet connection. In order to do this I have to quit game and this is when message appears.

Re: PS3 Out of Range message when quitting game

Right i'm halfway to understanding what's going on.

It sounds like your ps3 is readjusting the resolution to something the new tv isn't compatible with.

Looking at the t.v (bravia v4000), it should be compatible with all resolutions upto 1080p.

What happens when you turn the ps3 on initially (plugged into the new tv) ? It doesn't go straight into the game, so what happens and what boxes in the display settings do you have the resolution set to?

You should only have 720p and 1080p ticked.

Re: PS3 Out of Range message when quitting game

The 40v4000 supports 1080p so when the PS3 auto-detected the display settings it set the XMB to 1080p, the 32v4000 supports 720p but the PS3 still thinks its connected to the 40v4000 so it is trying to output 1080p which is out range of the 32v4000. Go to the display settings on the PS3 and auto-detect the display settings again.

Thanks, makes a lot of sense now. Will try it after work tonight!

hi there people im having a major problem can someone help me please...i bought a sony bravia tv the 32V4000u....now Im using a HDMi cable with my ps3 only problem is everything is connected but when I play certain games, or when I want to go to the main ps3 menu example quit pro evolution soccer 09 the screen goes all BLACK and says Out of range on the top left of screen...i can play my Call of duty modern warfare but then again cant play metal gear solid 4 all on the same tv. However when i take my ps3 downstairs on my philips 32 another hdtv using the same hd wire everything is working perfectly and ive asked ppl they dont know the problem and some guy told me that it is my tv and i have to auto detect the hd device but then when i go to my sony tv menu and try to update hdmi device it tells me:
"no devices detected, please check the connection or settings of the device",
please people help me out im having a very difficult time i cant even play mgs4 in my room

Re: PS3 Out of Range message when quitting game

Manually select the HDMI resolutions...select everything bar 1080P and you'll be fine.
