Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

Got a dilema Guys

My replacement 60GB PS3 from SONY is quieter than the faultyone i sent them but as a movie buff, it's still too lould for watching movies. It works fine though.

Someone has offered my £300 for it and i'm tempted to sell and get an 80GB model for the following reasons

1. Get a brand new warrenty
2. I don't use PS2 Games or SACD
3. For only £10 more than what i'm selling this for i can get a Free HDMI Lead, 1 Blu-Ray, and 3 Games from Amazon.co.uk
3. I'll have a quiet console

Saying that i'm really going to miss the chrome finish and 4 USB Ports and it's going to be a bloody pain to download everything again

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

The fewer usb ports are very annoying on the other model, but saying that in your position I would definately go for it.. I'v only got a 40gb but I don't notice any noise (no more than a sky+ box) it when watching blu-rays.. so do it!

do you not have an external drive you can back it up to rather than redownload everything?

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

Yeah, i guess i can back everything up.

Part of me think's i need to make the most of what i have. It took me a while to actually get a 60GB Model in the 1st place.

There's no way i can make it run cooler to reduce the noise either.

Could you not put it in a cabinet that is fan cooled?

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

I can't one small enough for my room.

I really don't know what to do. The USB ports are a God send with PlayTV ect. Plus it sounds silly but i really prefer the chrome bezel

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

Are the 80GB consoles as silent as the 40GB ones were?

They are doing some killer deals ATM on the 80GB Model.

With Amazon i could get Dead Space, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Black Hawk Down Blu-Ray and a HMDI Lead for £10

I'd keep Dead Space but sell the other 2 for £50 which could buy me a few Blu-Rays

Arrrrggghhhh. I dunno what to do?

Sounds like a good deal to me! You can always get a usb hub, and a usb card reader. Newer machine and some extra bits, all for a tenner? Go for it

I think this is a good point. There appear to have been a considerable number of machines going down recently. Get a new 80GB with another years warranty seems like a good play to me!

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

Anyone here able to compare the 2 noise wise for me?

I used to have an old 40GB model and that really was silent.

It's all sounding good but there's a tiny part of me which thinks i'll regret it later on

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

They're the same as, or perhaps better than, the 40gb internally, so in theory they should be fine... I've only had my 40/320gb so can't compare...

re: Should i swap my 60GB model for an 80GB?

My advice would be, if you don't want Ps2 backwards compatibility, to definitely sell the 60GB and get either the CECHJ 40GB model, or the 80GB.

If you want Woolworths are selling the 40GB for £225 at the moment with their 10% off sale. Just make sure its the CECHJ model you buy none others.

Plus before someone states it, if Woolworths go down, Sony are very helpful with their warranty service.

I used them and they swapped my faulty CECHH (it was noisy, hot running 40GB - That wasn't why I returned it though) for the new superb cool running CECHJ

The fan has never once ramped up in these two months of owning. The previous version did all the time.
