PS3 wont connect to my home cinema system!!!!!

Wondering if anyone can help me. I have my LG Scarlet 6100 tele connected via HDMI TO MY PS3. I have my sky box connected by Scart to my tele, my wii conected by component cable to my tele and my LG home cinema connected by scart to my tele.

My problem is that I have no surround sound when using the ps3.

I have it for the Wii, and for the sky but not for the ps3.

Its driving me mad, especially as the DVD player i got rid off for the ps3 worked with the surround sound via the same HDMI cable that I am now using on the ps3

So sorry for this monster post but I hope someone can help.

P.s I have no optical out on my Lg home cinema or HDMI but it did please remember it did work on my old dvd player.

All the best,

Lee

Re: PS3 wont connect to my home cinema system!!!!!

What inputs do you have on the back of your home cinema system, I think you need a connection for sound between the PS3 and the surround sound system. You've said it doesn't allow HDMI or optical - has it got red and white sockets for audio inputs? if you post the model of the surround sound system then you may get better advice?

Yep it has red and white sockets for audio, Winner! But the ps3 does not....

Any ideas?

Yes it did! I will go and get it. But are you saying I should hook the ps3 up using HDMI and the audio cable but just use the red and white bits and leave the other color hanging?

Yes - the yellow is for the video signal if you have an old TV, so ignore it. You might need to fiddle with the audio settings in the PS3 settings menu to get the sound from these cables.

No, don't replace the HDMI cable. Keep that for picture to the TV from the PS3.

Just connect the av multi cable (the one with red, white, and yellow plugs) to the PS3 and then connect the red and white plugs only to the back of the DVD surround system.

It won't give you surround sound, only stereo, but that's the best you can get if your surround system doesn't have optical or HDMI inputs.

Tricky problem with HDMI & optical leads on PS3

Help required please. I am trying to hook up my PS3 to a Benq projector and a Toshiba home cinema system. I have an HDMI lead from the PS3 to the projector and an optical lead from the PS3 to the Tosh. On start up the PS3 asks 'do you want to export video and audio via HDMI?'. If I answer yes, I get video but no audio, if I answer no, I get audio but no video. What am I doing wrong please?

Select yes, so you have video. Then go into ps3 sound settings and change it to optical.

What inputs does your home cinema system have?

If it's an all in one job without video switching for multiple inputs, you'll probably want to run video from the PS3 via HDMI direct to the TV and sound via optical or standard phono leads (red and white) to the home cinema system.

You can use the standard connector that came with the PS3 if you are going down the phono leads route.

It has one scart input, one hdmi input and the red white and yellow. My tv just has 3 hdmi and 2 scart and the ps3 has 1 hdmi and 1 optical.

Looking at the philips webpage for your kit, I'd be betting the HDMI is an output, not an input (it will be if you are using it to connect to your tv).

It states there is an aux input, you will probably be limited to using that for getting surround sound from your PS3. Use the original AV connector supplied with your PS3 (red, white and yellow connectors) to connect to the Aux input. You'll only need the red and white for audio, don't connect the yellow.

You'll only get Dolby Surround, not true 5.1 but it'll be better than just TV speakers

Thanks you your help mate, sorry for all the questions though. Ive plugged the red and white from the tv to the philips but there is still no sound. Do you think there is something in the settings on the PS3 for this? I have tried changing it to aux on the philips and have also looked to see if there were any settings on the tv that needed to be changed.

You connect the ps3 to the tv with hdmi.
connect the ps3 to the surround system with the original red/white,+ yellow lead, to the surround system.
*ONLY CONNECT THE RED/WHITE ONES TO THE SURROUND SYSTEM THOUGH, NOT THE YELLOW*

then go into the ps3 Settings > Sound Settings > Audio Multi-Output, and enable "Audio Multi Output"

Read my original post, use the original AV connector that came with your PS3 AND the HDMI cable.
PS3 > TV (by HDMI)
Red and White from AV Connector > Home Cinema
