Re: Sony Continuous Play

They wont even bother logging it without a serial number, so sign up to CP and then report it as faulty tomorrow.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

I have had the problem with discs not reading. Before I realised the continuous play cover existed I rang the sony careline explaining the problem, only to be told it would be £99 to fix my console. I left all my details, serial number with them when calling but decided not to go ahead with a repair. I registered for continuous play a few weeks ago and left it a little while before claiming. I rang the claim number yesterday (the number to ring when claiming seems to go through to the sony careline) and explained the problem about the machine not reading discs, I gave all of my details and the serial number to the operator who then managed to bring it up on the system that I had previously rang up the careline about the problem and been informed that it would be £99 to fix the machine. She also confirmed that I did this before signing up for continuous play.
She then went on to say that they would send out a courier in a few days to pick up my machine and it would be repaired and back to me in 14-21 days. It did not seem to be a problem that I had reported my PS3 as faulty before signing up for continuous play, although one thing she did say was that because I did it this way they were unable to offer an exchange rather than a repair.
Before hanging up I doubled checked that there was no charge to myself which the operator reassured me there would not be.

I guess the reason that the policy t&c do not mention anything about signing up after your PS3 has broken is because in the long run they know they will make more than the £99 repair bill from each person who signs up for the policy and does not cancel.
Which is what I will be doing. I have read posts where people have said they will sign up, get the repair and then cancel. But it worries me about what I would do if my PS3 broke again a few months later, I would be a little cautious of signing up a second time and reporting a fault a week later!!

I haven't cancelled my cover yet (I haven't even had a confirmation letter) but was actually advised to cancel it by Sony! My CP cover is now on the wrong console as the serial number has changed and I have 3 months warranty on the refurb. I asked Sony how I go about getting it changed and she said I might as well cancel and then take it out again in 3 months under the correct console. She did say cancelling it then taking it out again on the same serial number might cause a problem, though I'm not sure whether this really is the case.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Hi guys - can I just clarify something as different posts suggest different things..

If I signed up to CP and claimed - do they pick up the PS3 and repair it - leaving you without a console for a few weeks, or do they send you a replacement and collect your faulty machine at the same time?

If the latter - is that it - you then keep the replacement, or do they fix your knackered one and bring it back again?

Also - what does the replacement tend to be? A 60gb refurb, or a new 80gb one?

Cheers.

PS - touch wood my original 60gb is still going strong, but for how long I don't know...

They collect and leave you a refurb at the same time.

You keep the refurb and yours gets fixed, gets a new case and sent out to someone else.

The replacement will be like-for-like.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Was given a PS3 with a broken drive by my mate on Monday. Registered with Continuous Play On Tues. Phoned them up to report the fault this morning. They will be replacing it next week Tuesday! Excellent stuff - they havent even taken the 1st months payment from my account yet!

Hi does anyone know if you do decide to quite Continuous Play can you re-sign back with them after?

Also say if your 40GB PS3 breaks down, can you haggle with them to receive a 80GB one even if are willing to pay on top?

Re: Sony Continuous Play

A mate that I work with had their PS3 die on them so I told them about CP. I told him to sign up, wait a week or 2 then make a claim. The following day he told me that he signed up online, phoned CP 5 minutes later just to confirm that he is now protected. He was told that he was now covered and if his PS3 ever breaks down then he should just phone to report it. Instead of waiting, he told them there and then and they arranged a replacement, no questions asked! The exchange tool place on the 8th of April and he is as happy as can be, especially when they hadnt even taken the 1st payment by the time the replacement happened!

Does the plan only cover one PS3 console if you own more than one?

As you have to state the serial number you'd need a policy for each one.

They cover all components supplied with the console and yes, people have had their controllers repaired/replaced.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

I'm thinking of signing up to Continous play tonight for my launch 60gb UK PS3.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have added a 250gb 7200rpm drive to my PS3 about 7-8 months ago, and have since sold the original 60gb drive.

If I have to send the PS3 back under the continous play scheme, will I get "MY" console back with the larger HDD? will they even accept the ps3 back with a non standard hard drive in the machine?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

i dont think they will accept it to be honest, and under continuous play they will probably refuse a repair...if you push for it you might get it repaired but without the original hdd i dont know what they will say. you would have to ask them...just make sure you sign up to continuous play before you call sony.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

I signed up yesterday, after the 2.7 update I have had continuous crashes and my 60gb PS3 fails to read external drive properly, to be honest I don't mind paying £5 a month just for the peace of mind, I would be in two minds whether I would want an 80gb alternative though if I had to get it repaired, after all does it have card readers? SACD? 4 USB's? I'm not too bothered about backwards compatibility with PS2 but the other features I use regularly.

Re: Sony Continuous Play

its just the waiting time to get your console repaired if they agree, or a 60gb replacement...as you are using the card slots, and extra usb ports then its better for you to stick with the 60gb model.

i opted to get an 80gb in exchange for my 60gb model, as i didnt really need the extra ports and card slots and i sold all my ps2 stuff.
80gb runs much cooler, my 60gb was crashing and the fans used to kick in straight away when i turned it on, hot air used to be coming out of it from all the vents...and i kept it clean and as dust free as i could before i got the yellow light problem.

Thats the only problem with the 60gb mine seems to be getting noisier as the years progress, did they send you a new 80gb out or refurb? If its new and my PS3 packs in I may opt for that, but if not I would like my own repairing as its well looked after

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Just phoned the Continuous Play people up and was impressed with the service. They are picking my 60gb up tomorrow and replacing it with a new 60gb machine that I was assured "has totally new components inside that are fully tested".

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Hi guys, I've got same prob as many others it seems.

Until yesterday was blissfully unaware of PS3 console problems. Then it stopped playing games.

It still reads cds, dvds, goes online to PS Home. Reading forums about the problem, seems it has the common problem of blu-ray death.

Mine's a 40gb, bought Nov 07, died April 09. So out of warrantee. However, is it still worth approaching Sony for replacement, as the problem is their parts wearing out after only just after a year of use.

Or would it be better to register for continuous play, and claim a replacement through them?

I do have a problem with serial number though. I went overseas for a couple of months and took of serial no. sticker which I put on my PS3 paperwork (which I currently can't find!). But I do have the receipt.

If I can't get it fixed, will have to go out and get new console, can't live without it unfortunately. If I buy it in Game shop, I could take out 3 year extended warranty, which costs £35 and gives an additional 2 years after manufacturers warranty runs out. Does that seem like a good plan?

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Hi Guys, i couldnt read all of this as its long.

I have bought a second hand 40GB model off an old friend who no longer has the recipt and also cant remeber how long he had it.

He is now no longer a friend as it had a fault with it when I got it, in that it didnt give a picture or audio through the HDMI or Scart.

I rung sony heapline they diagnosed the poblem and sorted it out, saying there was a failure of some sort, it does happen, but very rare.

I aske dif this would happen again he said probably not.

They didnt take any details from me or anything.

I am a little worried now as I paid £150 for it and if it does go wrong I want to make sure i can get a replacement.

So do I bother signing up to this continuos play or just wait till it breaks and then sign up.

I am a little screwed as i have no recipt or proof of purchase so any advice would be appreciated.

To be honest its better to sign up at least you got the peace of mind, i signed up after mine started playing up and just got the replacement today! You also get 3 months extended warranty for this and if it faults again you get a brand new one!

Also they dont ask for proof of purchase just what year and month (roughly) also where you purchased it from,

hope it helps

Re: Sony Continuous Play

Has anyone else had problems with CP registration?
I have completed the online registration process three times now. Each time i reach step 5 (confirmation) and it tells me my purchase is complete but there is no record of me having set up a policy when i phone up for my policy number.
They wont let me register over the phone either.
Is it just me having this problem?

Everytime I've swapped a hard drive I've had to format it even if it had just come out of a PS3 and back in again.
