When Is The PS3 Web Browser's Flash Player Going To Be Updated ?

OK, I live far away from home and I am keen to watch video contents of News website (France, UK) from my laptop.

Why the hell on earth Sony has not updated the current version of the Flash Player since launchfor me to leave the aforementionned laptop at work and watch the news via my PS3

I know quite a few of you guys are praying for IN Game XMB but why is there so little interest in watching Internet video content?

I am sure I'm not the only one right

I agree, although not the primary function it would be nice if the browser was developed a bit more.
Have you thought of linux at all?

Re: When Is The PS3 Web Browser's Flash Player Going To Be Updated ?

Thanks Jim

But 239viewers, 1 person interestedthat says it all about the usage of Webbrowser on this machine

then I can understand SONY, who certainly makes survey on customers panel, doing nothing, nada, rien to improve this feature

As per the suggestions to consider Linux, well I had a look at the interface/displayand gave up

Does anybody know if the PSP comes more handy, with homebrews for example, to get this Internet video playback working fine

I tried using the web browser a few times when I first got my PS3 and realized how cumbersome it was and decided not to use it again. To be honest even if it was more robust and full featured I still wouldn't use it as my desktop and laptop are on most of the time I'm at home and I much rather use my laptop. I can understsand a lot of people like to use the browsers on the PS3 and Wii for quick access so they don't need to boot up their computers but it still baffles me why anyone would want to use them.

I'd like to use my PS3 to watch online videos because sometimes my PC is in use.

Not really. Remember there have been threads like this before, and i didnt bother reply before till you said the above.

I am interested in a better PS3 browser, as i do use it, but there's probably some people that either cant be bothered to reply, havent checked this thread at all (i mean how interesting can it be from the title?), or would like it but not enough to throw in a "yes please".

Generally it's only good for light surfing, the best aspect is it's far quicker to go from powered off to browsing on the PS3 than a PC, so useful for a "i'll just check that...".

Re: When Is The PS3 Web Browser's Flash Player Going To Be Updated ?

I would be interested in a better browser, I don't generally use but would be more inclined if it was easier to use. Certainly saves on time rather than booting up the pc if checking on directions or to see if an email has arrived.

I'll agree with you guys here. I want to watch internet video on my 26" TV, not some tiny laptop which I cannot connect to my TV

Re: When Is The PS3 Web Browser's Flash Player Going To Be Updated ?

I use it quite a lot, it's perfect for when you're watching the footie and get into those "remember this?" discussions, you can be watching clips on youtube inside 30 seconds on a big TV without even getting up. Once you've used the browser a couple of times and you get used to the shortcuts and opening multiple windows etc, it actually becomes quite intuitive.

I can see how writing a long email would be annoying with the pad, but it doesn't take any time to type in an internet address and it stores ones you've already typed anyway. Zooming is also really useful and I use it all the time.

The only annoying thing is whenever I go to AVF, it asks me if I want to run the plugin or not every time a page loads. This doesn't happen for most websites, just AVF and a couple of others. The solution for me is either for the PS3 to have an option to remember my selection in the future, or for AVF to find out what plugin it is and stop using it

It's the clock. Or atleast i think it is, as thats the only thing that doesn't show when i answer no.

I too would like the browser to be updated. Flash player, not running out of memory so often, being able to copy/paste etc would all be welcome additions as i use the PS3 browser a lot.

Damn Clock !

I think the ps3 from boot-up to a bookmarked webpage will beat any pc, that can't be a bad thing, its great for checking footie scores the weather and watching youtube.

Re: When Is The PS3 Web Browser's Flash Player Going To Be Updated ?

I'm glad there is more interest then

any idea if our friends from SONY are going to do something about this video flash player at the same time than the PSN store revamp then

Certainly not connected issues but I hope they dont leave the Web browser as it is

Try it yourself if you want. Control Panel > Edit options > Scroll down to Misc Options > Show Flash clock.

I'm not sure what percentage of resources it uses but there is no way of removing it as it's part of the OS/firmware. I imagine it takes very little hard drive space and only uses resources when it's actually being used.

But does the plug-in load after the message option is disabled?
