PS3 Hard Disk Upgrade Limit

Does anybody know if there is a Gb limit to the size of 2.5" hard disk that can be used to replace the existing?

Also, I see that 2.5" HDDs come in several different formfactors ie: 1/8 1/6 etc. which is compatible?

I have a 250GB internal Hard Drive!

Works fine! It's the highest internal Hard Drive you can get i think!

Yeah I think aslong as it's 2.5" 5400rpm SATA then you can use it.

Mine's a 120gb, I've half filled it up (got 68gb left) and thats with about 12 demos on it, and about 20 odd videos, and a good GB of music!

Yeah that would be external you cant get internal 2.5" sata drives at that capacity yet..

to answer the OP's question your only limited by what size drives are available ie as long as it's 2.5" 5400rpm SATA you can use it.

external drive on an adaptor. it acts as the internal drive. well, it *is* the internal drive, just external...lol. so im not limited by space, rotational speed or price

I'm considering upgrading my HDD soon. Can anyone who has previously done this confirm that when you run the backup prior to upgrading, some data won't get backed up. If so, what data won't get backed up?

I'm going for a 500Gb Western Dig Book type HD i think. Small enough to sit round the back of the PS3 in the AV rack.

You can use a 7200rpm one as well if you like. I doubt you would see much performance increase over it though.

do you need to backup data from old drive in ps3 to new hard drive, or can u just take old drive out, put new one in, then let ps3 format it and set it up, then just download all files onto it again??, looking to get a 160gb hard drive for my ps3, but not ordered a sata to usb convertor to connect drive upto ps3 first to copy files.

Well i got the harddrive yesterday and borrowed a mates external drive to do the backup/restore.. longest part was backing up, took about 1.5 hours to backup 43gb onto disk.. the upgrade took less than ten minutes and then another 1.5 hours to restore everything.. everything worked great.. nice of Sony to make upgrading so easy

should have lots of room now for music/video and games..

I did not have a external Hard Drive had to move my game saves to my 4GB PSP memory card (5 mins) then put my new one in (10 mins) then download all the stuff agin (4-5 days) !

Now that it's in i have lot's of space!
