What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

Most of the people on this forum think PS3 isn't going to cut their prices this year. But following in line with trends with US/Jap pricing structure, they both had price cuts.

How would anyone who currently owns a PS3 feel, if Sony slashed their prices?

If it carries on selling as it does, and the rivals sell as they currently are, they will have to cut the price.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

same thing happened with the orgianl xbox1, it wasn't shifting units so they dropped £100 and gave all those that paid top whack a choice of games and controllers.... was a nice gesture and something i don't think Sony would do TBH

The US price is the same as it has always been, as far as I know.

In any event, even if there was a price cut this year, I suspect it would be to £399, not £325.

It's actually selling well, but don't let that get in the way of thinking.

I'd fell nothing. You adopt at launch, it's your choice and you know the price could drop at anytime.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

If sony need to cut the price of the PS3 in future to generate enough sales to make it attractive to develope for the console I would much rather they did so and face having paid £100 more for it than face having no decent software to play on it.

Why don't you ask the same question in the lcd or plasma or projector or virtually any other of the forums here. If you have bought a piece of hd-ready equipment in the last 6 months you have probably seen it fall in price by more than the total cost of the PS3 already

Probably best to give it a week or two and wait for official figures on that one.

if sony cut it's prices on the ps3 by £100........The sales figures would be telling a different story and ms would be in trouble. There are laods of hardcore fans that love the playstation brand, more so than the xbox brand, the price is what is putting alot of people off.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

A £100 price drop wouldn't bother me.

I chose to buy my PS3 at the price I paid (I imported, and after customs were done with me did save a little but not that much). If I was going to be unhappy then it would have been a poor choice for me to have went and bought it in the first place.

The LCD TV I bought not even a year ago is now £200 less than I paid for it. The prices of tech items drop, it's just a matter of how long until they do.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

As already said It wouldnt make much difference.

I bought my plasma for 2100 I could get one now foir 1100 but if id waited I wouldnt have enjoyed it like I have for the last 2 years. everything comes down in price. how long do you wait, 2 years 3 years I cant see the PS3 coming down at all untill after xmas then sales at xmas will tell sony wether to drop or not.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

As people say, we all know the price of an item and if it is a big problem then we shouldn't be buying it. I coudl wait until christmas to get better deals....But I'd rather pay £500ish with a couple of games and play now...The biggest joke is how quick hd tv's have gone down in price and they keep dropping, obviously with technology the price drops but, these prices are falling quicker than a sack of potatoes.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

summer price cut to £300-350 odds on.

if things stay like this, they need to get this thing in peoples houses asap and start to recoup the billions outlaid in development by selling blu ray discs and games

its going to get negative very quick and that can kill a product no matter how good

Couldnt care less if prices got slashed and no `early adoptor` is going to either!! The system is well worth £424.99..every bit and I`m glad I was there at midnight on the 23rd.

The only moaners on this site are those who dont have the money. Is this thread really valid?

I'd buy one.

At the moment I've got the money to buy either PS3 or Xbox 360 and for some reason I really don't want an Xbox (seems like a money eater - and I know Sony have great potential) but I'm not paying top dollar this early on in the PS3 product lifecycle.

I reckon they are more likley to introduce the 20gb model at £100 less before any price drop on the 60gb is going to happen, After all the 20gb is directly competing against the top 360.

If Sony somehow got BIA3 on steroids that might convince me, especialy if they released MGS and Killzone2 at the same time, bundled them for £500. I'd pay £500 for a PS3 with BIA, MGS and KZ. Tomorrow. Tonight.

If you like shooter than it has to be a PC or 360. The 360 is all about shooters, which is part its problem. It doesn't have that mass market appeal, more aimed at the hardcore gamer. The 360 seems to appeal most to PC games cause of the nature of the games.

Halo 3
Mass Effect
BioShock
Crackdown
Gears of War
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
Lost Planet

Yeah, course it is.

£399 already here: www.dvd.co.uk

That's £25 cheaper after the 4th day, I bet other retailers will follow suit

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

It is the fastest selling Console ever having soled 165000 units in its first weekend. Only the PSP has sold more in such a short space of time. Surely this must be seen as a success and would not lend to to a price drop. Sony have a half decent BD player in their console and selling it for at least 200 pounds less than the cheapest Stand alone BD player on the market, Add the HD DVD drive to the 360 and a wireless adaptor and it becomes £490. In response why cut prices. I have all the kit mention in this list and believe the the 360 is so far superior with regards game playing but as an all rounder the PS3 wins hands down. I think Sony will probably release the 20gb version at the end of the year and match it alongside the premium 360 for price and even then you have to buy the HD Drive to match it for functionality. why oh why would they lower the prie this side of 2008. Thos who love games and don't care about HD Video and feel 425 is to expensive should buy the 360 as is easily on par if not better.

Re: What if PS3 cut it prices by £100

I think it will be £349 for christmas this year. Thats still more expensive than the current prices in Japan and America. £424.99 is a funny price anyway. Even if they brought it to £399 it would have a big effect on sales.

They are not going to get mass market penetration with a console costing £400 however good it is.

A launch weekend doesn't make or break a console, and it is far too early to say how it will sell in Europe. In Japan it's selling average number, although far more than the 360 but the Wii is killing it. In the US the 360 has outsold the PS3 in every month since the PS3 launched.

I'd expect Europe to end up looking similar to the US sales but it's far too early to know. We aren't even 1 week into the PS3's European life, so let's at least give things a chance to settle.

The magic mass market price is £299 IMO, if sony gets there for Xmas they will clean up, don't think it will happen this year though.
