wheres 15GB went to

Don't know if this has been posted but has anyone noticed that the HD only has 45GB out the box wheres the other 15GB went to. Now I know it is common to loose some memory for applications and stuff but 15 Gb why don't they tell us this, Xbox 360 the same with approx 8Gb missing from the start.

Re: wheres 15GB went to

The 15 gigs is devoted to background system, basically it uses it for virtual memory, game loadings, ie it caches most of a game before it loads so that the performance can be kept tip top

Re: wheres 15GB went to

It should be approx 55gb out of the box, which is normal for a formatted 60gb drive.

I think it unlikely a fault with the drive to give this sympton.

Which leaves either there is downloaded information on it.. Songs, Videos, Games OR the hard drive has been partitioned, I think this information might be under system settings etc..

You didn't partition the drive off the linux did you? Online guides usually indicate 10gb partitions

This could probably be the answer, though when I downloaded something off the psstore for the first time it said 55gb available.

Re: wheres 15GB went to

Possibly the PS2 emulation is taking some space. I think with my American one it was 55-56gb.

Yes I've lost 15GB too. Might be something to do with system files and reserved storage space.
