Please Help, PS3 owner in distress

I have just received my PS3 which I ordered online from Komplett. For some strange reason it has not come with the standard UK plug and is instead fitted with the 2 pin European version. It's not a major issue because I can go out and buy an adaptor but I'm not sure what amp fuse I need.

If some kind person could check their plug to see what fuse is fitted I would be forever grateful.

Re: Please Help, PS3 owner in distress

Personally I'd just go and buy a mains cable with the right plug on rather than muck about with a 2 to 3 pin adapter....

...but either way, the fuse is there to protect the cable, rather than the equipment, so 3A, 5A or 10A would be fine. 5A would be my choice.

Also get your supplier to confirm your covered by warranty as it sounds like you got a grey import ..unless you were aware of this when you bought it.

Are they all power leads the same because I don't want to use something that might damage the PS3?

If they are all the same and I can use a different one, could someone please post a link to a suitable lead because if it's possible to buy the wrong one then I'm sure to do it.

One thing that's confusing me about the lead Komplett sent is the end that goes into the PS3 has got 10A written on it and the plug end has 16A. I have no idea if this relates to the Amp needed and if so which is correct?

If I get an fuse with too small an amp I presume it will blow but what would happen if I got a fuse where the amp is too big?

Re: Please Help, PS3 owner in distress

I'm hoping Komplett will send me the correct lead or an adaptor free of charge.

Will this lead work?

Warranty will be EU wide, it has to be. There is no 'grey market' with the EU, we have a single market, you know.

Re: Please Help, PS3 owner in distress

Thanks for all your help guys. Komplett have agreed to send out a replacement cable free of charge but said they couldn't do next day delivery . At least it will get sorted I suppose, it just means my PS3 wait goes on a few days more. Of course it's even more frustrating now I have it sitting in my room.

Don't fret about the current ratings marked on the two ends. The IEC connector at the PS3 end has a maximum rating of 10A, the 2 pole supply connector at the other end has a maximum rating of 16A. Once you fit a UK style supply plug, it's rated at 13A - these are just maximum figures as I said, so as long as the bit of kit you use is within that, it's safe. PS3 is never going to draw more than 1.5A or thereabouts so a 3A or 5A fuse is fine. I suggested a 5A as the inrush current when you switch on might be a wee bit high for a 3A.

Re: Please Help, PS3 owner in distress

I fitted a 3amp fuse (it's all I had in the house) to a spare PC power lead and it's been fine since December.
