Configuring PS3 display with the supplied Composite adapter

I've just picked up my PS3. Unfortunately my friend left the supplied av cable in the US. Can I just plug a HDMI adapter into it or do I *have* to use the composite. How about a scart adapter using s-video/RGB ?

You don't have to use composite.. in fact I'd strongly advise against it if at all possible.

If you don't have an HD TV then get a SCART RGB adapter (the PS2 ones apparently work).

Ok, so the PS3 will default to the the scart output? I know the 1.60 update will allow HDMI to be the automatic default display, but I need to switch to HDMi before I can download it..

If you have HDMI use that. PS3 knows what's connected and automatically switches to it.

There are some websites that claim you need to boot with a composite cable but they're presumably talking about an ancient firmware because it's just not the case with any ps3 I've seen.
