The PSN Is No More ... Welcome To The SEN

Good to see Sony actually making an effort to linkup and make the 'universe' one synced thing.

PSN accounts changing to Sony Entertainment Network | VG247

Quote:
Sony has announced PlayStation Network accounts will be changed over to Sony Entertainment Network accounts via an update on February 8, a move which has been the works at the firm since September 1 of last year.

According to the notice sent out to various PSN account holders, the move incorporate a “comprehensive network platform” of services from Sony across games, movies, music and various media offerings.

“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering,” read the email. “As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network.

“This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”

A few minor changes were made to the TpS agreement, but the main change is in the name only at this time.

PSN accounts will change over to SEN accounts via the next PS3 and Vita software update next week, and changes will not be applied to PSP for the present.

How is it worse?

If you can consolidate a few services into one, allow users to more seamlessly pass their info to different places, and save backend costs, it all seems good.
Much like Google, or even Apple (same account name for different areas: store cloud etc) and MS (same account for hotmail, MSDN) have been doing. Then it allows you to log into your PS3, PC or future-TV and have info linked to you.

Of course if it's a precursor to charging for PSN, then yes it's worse.

That defeats the purpose of it being on the Playstation 3 changing its name. The reason it is called Playstation Network is because its exclusive to the Playstation and operated on the Playstation 3. Notice the key word Playstation. Calling it something else just does not make sense.

Now they change its name and completely call it something else bad moves non stop it seems

Then why change its name. Thats like changing Xbox Live to the Microsoft Entertainment Network making Xbox Live no longer Xbox branded.

Hmm. . .what will you be calling it for short?

I say "play on P.S.N" but "play on S.E.N" sounds weird! Might just say Sen.

The playstation network isn't changing names. Your playstation network account will now be a SEN account, because it's also used for netflix, etc etc etc.

All explained here Why PSN Won't Be Renamed to SEN

The release by Sony:

On February 8, 2012, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account” or a “SEN account” in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation®3 system software and PlayStation®Vita system software updates. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system at this time.)

For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network.” This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition.

Sincerely,
The Sony Entertainment Network Team

Probably not. It'll just change the PlayStation Network name under the globe -with-button-logos to Sony Entertainment Network.

Wonder will the blue globe x o triangle square icon be ditched on the XMB for the SEN logo?

Apart from it rolling off the tongue less easily, this was long overdue. Sony have fallen behind rivals because of infighting and self-interests competing. For a company capable of packaging entire hardware and software content bundles in one, it was self-defeating for separatism to persist but that is exactly what has happened for the past 10 years. It's a small change but more like it are needed if Sony are to turn their fortunes around

It started after 2007 in my view when the PS3 launched way to late. Before that Sony seemed to be doing ok

GAZ, is that just a guess or yet another piece of anti-PS3 propaganda?

Sony had problems before the PS3, and before 2007. They had massive issues like the CD Rootkit and Laptop battery recalls. The Rootkit thing was a huge deal, even in the mainstream press, unlike the removal of OtherOS, BC or whatever else is considered an 'outrage' in the console world.

Anything GAZ can think up to add to his little campaign against all things PS3.

Not exactly sure what his beef is.

I'd say he was in the wrong place then. I'm here because I thoroughly enjoy gaming. If I saw as many negatives in my hobby as GAZ seems to do, I'd find a different hobby. Why would you put yourself through something you just find fault with?

Some people just like to have a moan.

I think he likes the attention though.
Like every other troll on the internet, they disagree with everyone and cause arguments to get a response.

Ummmm, Microsoft already did a name shuffle And i wouldnt be surprised to find them joining up more and more user info under one umbrella in the future.

Most MS software falls under a "LIVE" branding now, and individual platforms are subsets: Xbox LIVE, Windows Live, Office Live, etc

I thought it was odd the day my Hotmail account (which used to be discrete for only email), suddenly linked into MSDN. But as you were, Sony is evil, no other company acts like that etc blah blah...

Microsoft.Entertainment.Network would read MEN, which would be branded as sexist within minutes of it's announcement.

Who cares what PSN or SEN is called as long as it does it's job. It's just a name.

Please let us have the ability to change my PSN, ahem, SEN user name. I'd buy that for a dollar.
I hope the new SEN site on the ps3 is better than the current one, it's 5 years old and could do with refreshing.

Looks like it is in fact the whole PSN that is changing name to the SEN. Sony Say “Entire PSN” Will Become SEN | Gaming News and Opinion at TheSixthAxis.com

I'm gutted I am, truly. How could they do this!?
