Hi guys i have the original 40gb ps3 and have pretty much had 100% reliability.

Anyway when playing MW2 the fan kicks in after 15mins or so and its quite loud. Why is this as it has never done it before?

I have a 40GB unit which has given me 2 years faultless service.. I have been completely unware of the fans.. They are there, but they never spin up to a noticable level.

however, I just had a YLOD and did the repair and now when playing COD, 10 mins in, the fans are spinning so fast, I think it might take off.

For me, the cause is almost certainly that I have used too much/little thermal compound so I have to do it again. But in your case, it could be a fault (perhaps you are on the verge of a YLOD).. it could be that the thermal connection between the CPU/GPU and heat sink has failed.. or it could just be that you have a lack of ventilation.

I wouldn't imainge that COD:MW2 puts any more load on the CPU/GPU than any other game, so I would imagine that this is a co-incidence.

Can you try with another game?

Jo
