I use the Belkin N router at home and my PS3 works fine with it.
I use homeplugs where i work and they are fine too.
Ideally you would want you're PS3 wired from the router for the best experience. But the netgear homeplugs i use are a fantastic solution if thats not possible.
Here is a test i did at my work home. Hope this helps.
Pre Power-Line Testing and results
I did a speed test with 3 different checkers and gave myself the averages score from the 3.
PC With Wireless (G) Dongle
speedtest.net = Download 7080 Mbps - Upload 860 kbps - Ping 20 ms
bbmax.co.uk = Download 7051 Mbps - Upload 1018 Mbps - Ping 38 ms
bbspeedchecker.co.uk = Download 6872 - Upload 1017 Mbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 7001 Mbps - Upload 950.3 Kbps - Ping 29ms
PS3 Wireless
I just did a connection test twice to get these results.
1st Test - Download 6100 Mbps - Upload 251.6 Kbps
2nd Test - Download 6700 Mbps - Upload 285.4 Kbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 6400 Mbps - Upload 268.5 Kbps
I then plugged the Power-Line kit in (into the wall in its own socket) and got the following results:
PC Wired From Power-Line Adaptor
speedtest.net = Download 7060 Mbps - Upload 900 kbps - Ping 20 ms
bbmax.co.uk = Download 7061 Mbps - Upload 1039 Mbps - Ping 41 ms
bbspeedchecker.co.uk = Download 6992 - Upload 1063 Mbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 7037 Mbps - Upload 1 Mbps - Ping 30.5ms
PS3 Wired
1st Test - Download 6700 Mbps - Upload 903.4 Kbps
2nd Test - Download 6300 Mbps - Upload 849.8 Kbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 6500 Mbps - Upload 876.6 Kbps
So as you can see there is a slight increase on the download speed on both the PC and PS3. With a slight upload increase on the PC but a substansial increase on the PS3.
I'd just like to add that i was getting 85% signal wirelessly on the PS3 and Excellent Signal on the PC beforehand.
Now for a final test.
I have a 6 plug extension in the wall with PC,PS3,Surround System,Printer, and TV plugged in. I then added the Powerline to the final socket. And heres the results:
PC Wired From Power-Line Adaptor In The Extension
speedtest.net = Download 6910 Mbps - Upload 1 Mbps - Ping 20 ms
bbmax.co.uk = Download 7028 Mbps - Upload 972 Kbps - Ping 42 ms
bbspeedchecker.co.uk = Download 6824 - Upload 945 Kbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 6920 Mbps - Upload 972 Kbps - Ping 31ms
PS3 Wired From Extension
1st Test - Download 6700 Mbps - Upload 864.2 Kbps
2nd Test - Download 6700 Mbps - Upload 767.5 Kbps
Total average (Mean) = Download 6700 Mbps - Upload 815 Kbps
So as you can tell plugging it into an extension hardly made any difference at all to the results. In the PS3 case it was even better at the Download speed.
