Unhappy No Sound from optical output on PS3 Slim - Please Help

I just bought PS3 slim a couple of days ago. I connected to Panasonic TH-P46V1 with HDMI and optical cable to my Denon AVC-1590 Apmlifier (no HDMI input).
In PS3 setting, I selected optical cable with Dolby, DTS, AAC and 2 PCMs that were pre-selected and can't uncheck. I also selected bitstream. In this setting, I can hear clicking sound as I navigate the menu but whenever I start a game or Blu-ray, sound disapears. If I turn on multi-output, then I get sound from TV but no sound from apmlifier when I start a game or movie (I can still hear navigation sound on the PS3 menu).
I checked the optical out and red light is on even when sound is not coming out. I have tried changing settings and cables but nothing worked. I have been googling for similar issues people had but none of suggestions worked. I have found similar topics but none of them had exactly the same issue as mine.
If anybody could give me some advice, I'd appreciate it. http://www.avforums.com/forums/image...ies/please.gif

i dont want to cause offence but you are pluggin it into an optical "in" huh?

the only reason i ask, is my dad recently blamed me for breaking his external HD, when instead of plugging in the correct USB he plugged in the ps3eye.....

Thank you for your responses. Yes to both questions, I'm afraid. It is set to digital on amplifier and it is plugged in to opt in on amp.
Sound comes out fine while I'm navigating the menu screen (Sony's cross menu) but sound stops when I start a disk.

try checking the info bar when playing the disk. you can access it by pressing the triangle button and scrolling across the options.
if a sound signal is being output by the ps3 then this should show up there.
you can narrow the problem down to the amp if the info shows up.
