Official bluetooth headset noise.

When I have my headset on, it often shows me as on the the game screen as making a noise. I presume this is just picking up random background noises. I'm presuming this must be really annoying for other gamers hearing crackling noises or whatever. I can't seem to find an option to turn down the sensitivity. I think there is an option under the settings>bluetooth devices to turn the microphone down but it's already at the lowest setting. Are all of the official ones this sensitive?
Also, can you switch off that really annoying beeping when you have it muted? That is a ridiculous feature. I generally like to keep it muted until I occasionally want to say something.

Nope, they're not all that sensitive. I had exactly the opposite problem. I tried HQ mode on, & HQ off with the sensitivity turned up full & I could barely be heard. I had to shout into the blinking thing. Ended up taking it back & getting the PS Eye. It's not ideal, but it does the job better than the official headset ever did.

I gather a lot of people have problems with the sensitivity of official PS3 headsets one way or the other, & no one seems to be able to figure out if it's down to the individual PS3's, the headset itself or the firmware.

There's a zillion page forum already on AVForums about this somewhere if you do a search.

I remember reading something about this the other day, people are up in arms about the official controller for picking up every little sound (up to and including button presses ). Not sure what the fix is, but its a fairly well-known problem and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be ablse to help you out more!

I'm not sure there is a fix. As far as I'm aware, this has been going on for months & months now with no word from Sony as to what the problem is.

There does seem to be a lot of people really happy with the quality of this headset, but equally there's a lot of people who just can't use it because of sensitivity issues
