A question about trophies.

I'm pretty new to the PS3, I have a few questions about the trophies.
When you're playing a game and you unlock a trophy so it appears on the top right of your screen, it doesn't seem like there is a button to press to go and see what that trophy was all about? Also why do you have to update/sync your trophy list every time you want to look at it? These things just seem like a bit of a backwards step after playing on a Xbox 360.
Also is there a standardized system of trophies in games? For example on the Xbox each game has 1000 gamerscore points. Does each PS3 game have 100 trophies or whatever?

In the Game section of the XMB, theres a section called Trophy Collection. If you go into that it'll list all the games for which you have collected trophies. You can then pick a game and view all the trophies that are available for that game, and also see which ones you have as well as comparing trophies with friends. It'll also tell you more detail about each trophy, like when you achieved it and exactly what it's for.

The reason why you sync trophies is this enables you to compare trophies with friends, as well as create portable ID's for use on forums such as this (see my avatar as an example).

There is no set number of trophies per game I don't think, it just depends on what trophies the developer decides to enable.

But is there an option just to press a button when a trophy pops up to take you to a screen and see what that trophy is. On the Xbox, unlock an achievement and you can just press the guide button which takes you directly to the information about that achievement. I've been playing Uncharted 2 and unlocked a trophy with no idea why, it would be useful to see that info imediately insteading of forgetting about doing it later.

Seems a bit mad that there's no standardization fo trophies! So one game can put in a couple of hundred if they wanted and another could just have 20? If that's the case it's like there is no meaning to them.

I don't know why, I'm really enjoying playing the PS3 but am definitely finding it a real step down from the features on the Xbox.

Me too mate. Never works first time. If I keep doing it though eventually it seems to work. Last night I had to do it about 10 times before it finally did it.

Exactly as Hooblue has described. You unlock a trophy, it pops up top right. You press the PS button and then follow Hooblue's steps above. This can be done either in a game or from the Main XMB.

If you exit the game you have to sync.

ROFLMAO no theres not 100 trophies a game, Theres around 50 for a retail one.

Platinum trophy=160 gamerscore
Gold trophy= About 60-90 ish gamerscore
silver=30 gamerscore
Bronze=Less then 30.

And no there's not a button.. Why would you want to view the trophy if you have already looked at the list (probably)

I'm having this issue too, it gets to 10%, stays there for a few minutes, then says 'an error has occurred'. I have to say, I do like that there's a trophy system, I know it doesn't actually achieve much, but I like that there's incentive to keep playing the game after 'finishing' it.

Well there may not be 100 trophies in a game but if there are 20 in one game and 50 in another, that doesn't make sense.

Who memorizes the trophy list before playing? I just play a game and if a achievement pops up, then I may want to see what it's for.

It is pure carp that you have to manually sync them though. It should be absolutely transparent to the user and just work in the background.

Why the hell would Sony do it this way?

Well I don't even really understand why it has to be synced at all. Surely it has nothing to do with being online and syncing, it should just be there anyway.

So people aren't allowed to ask questions on a forum any more then?
