Can't "copy" some of my saves!

Following my repair of my YLOD I wanted to get as much backed up as quickly as possible. Since a full backup estimated at 6 hours, i decided to get my 'saves' whilst I had a chance ready to be restored onto my Slim when it arrives next week.

But I find several which say something like "coping of this save is not allowed".. This was on games such as Rockband, Guitar Hero and a few others?

What now? Does this mean that I have to start again?

My fix has lasted long enough for me to take a 'backup', but if I can't copy these individual saves, i doubt if I will be able to do this using a backup too.

How can I keep my 'save position' for these games?

Jon

If you have done a full back up of your system all of your game save files will have been backed up as well

For some reason some game developers lock there save files so they can’t be backed up individually

It's worth noting that they'll only restore to the same console though, even using a full backup. If you restore the backup to a new machine, the protected saves won't be copied. There's no way around it unfortunately. It's a ridiculous system.

Agreed!

It's the one major advantage of my 360. It may be far more prone to failure, but when it does go, i just clip the HDD onto a new machine and BINGO!
Away i go...

I thought Sony would have fixed this in a FW update, as it's stopping me from getting a slim as i know i can't transfer all my stuff! And with my launch day 60gb beginning to run hotter than normal, its something thats been on my mind of late.

THats exactly how I understood it.. Great.. So whilst I am not likely to play some of my older games.. When i want to come back an play one of my favourite tracks in Rockband and/or Guitar hero, I can't because they will all be locked.

GREAT!

Thanks for the replies

Don't forget though that there is a code to unlock all songs in rockband 2. Not so sure about GH as I no longer have it.

Not down to Sony, its a decision taken by individual games publishers, i.e. Activision.

Sort off, but are those same game saves locked on the 360 version?

Even if you cant transfer individual game saves, Sony can still change it so that you can backup and restore ALL files to another PS3!

Or even better, allow swapping of HDD without having to reformat.

Nah, that would be far too sensible a thing for Sony to do.

I love my PS3, but I really don't get that decisi.....oh wait a minute, I've just figured it out. It's so that Sony can claim they've got more exclusives than everybody else. 27 million specific hard drives are exclusive to 27 million specific PS3's. That's some impressive numbers there.
