Can I put my current disk in a new PS3?

My 40GB PS3 has died.. But I had upgraded the drive to 250GB which I want to use in the new PS3 that I buy.

I can't make it boot so that I can back it up.. So what will happen if I put the 250GB drive into a new PS3? Will it work and give me some of the stuff (I am not expecting games to restore).. Or will it erase the disk?

Jon

If you put it in a different machine it will format it and wipe everything off.

Thats what I feared.. OK.. Then my only choice is

1. Buy a new PS3
2. OPen my and do the 'hot air gun' trick
3. Backup my stuff
4. Move on.

Cheers
