Does reformatting need doing?

Hello guys, to start sorry about making a new thread, I did search (probs not hard enough) and I'm really tired please forgive me.

I have no extra HDD to back up any data I may lose but I have a 2GB memory stick!

Well all I need to know is. Is backing up and reformatting something that really could really be done every once in a while? (When people send me pictures now it can take along time before I can view them). And what does reformatting do? deletes EVERYTHING? Like my game save data(can I still download my killzone 2 maps without using like 4/5 downloads), my psn and PSOne Classics(Flower, Sodoku, Everybodies Golf, Kulu World), music (can easily put back on) ect well you catch the drift.

It's just I hear alot of people on here backup data and reformat and my mate sugested it tonight.

PS I've never formatted since buying my PS3 just before last christmas.

Don't kill me

Re: Does reformatting need doing?

There is really no need to do a reformat unless you have a problem.

first thing how big is you hardrive and how much space do you have left?

REFORMATTING will wipe EVERYTHING. If you really want/need to reformat your PS3 then you will have to back up all your games saves and your pics. All download games can be redownloaded from the psn store (up to 5 times)

Surely waiting until you have a problem is too late to back up. if your machine dies and you have to replace it even if there is nothing wrong with your HD, putting it in your new machine automatically formats it does it not?

Re: Does reformatting need doing?

It's 80GB and I have 39GB left (I don't know where most of it's gone).

So what's the problem with the pictures I get sent? As sometimes it can take hours before I can view them.

How do you backup?

And concerning the downloads from the store. After 5 downloads do you have to rebuy them?

regards the downloads...yes
you say you have trouble view pics that are sent to you. do you save them, then view them.

or are you view them through the message they were sent on? Viewing them as an attachment to a message is slow.
