Major PS3 Problem

Hey,

Basically, ever since around Jan-Feb I've had this problem with my PS3. The easiest way I can describe it, is that my PS3 looks like its had a stroke.

It's been freezing for a while now, generally alot whilst playin UFC, a few times during Fight Night 4, and through general use. And also, the weirdest 'stroke' symptoms, sometimes (being more regular now) when you hit the PS button to go to the XMB, all the icons are slanted. Half the Icon is fine, the other half is dragged out. I would have got pics, but now my PS3 won't even display a pic.

I've tried resetting the display (holding the power on) and I got it to work once. It found the HDMI, then as it picked 1080i (with the 30 second wait) it froze again, and half the screen was black.

Do you reckon its game over for the system? I can't get it repaired as it's from HK (launch model, so had a good running!) as sending it back to Hong Kong would be far too expensive. And again repair charges from a repair shop would be extortionate.

I don't mind going to buy a new UK one, at least that way I will get a guarantee with it!

Cheers

Ash

Re: Major PS3 Problem

I would guess that the graphic chip is screwed, in that case a repair would involve a new main board which would probably cost you similar to the price of a new PS3. I think you'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a new one mate...

Re: Major PS3 Problem

That's alright, I'm off to buy one now

I thought it would be something bad, but still being a launch console from HK, I think it did pretty well

Re: Major PS3 Problem

Got my new PS3, looks like my PS3 had problems for ages, considering Burnout Paradise used to have some 'flickering' effect going on constantly, and its all fine on the new console.

Is there any way I can get my old save games back? I know something about you can't use your old HDD on the new PS3, but would backing up the saves off the old drive using a Sata cradle through the PC work?

Or would I have to backup the HDD through a PS3 onto and external and then back onto the new one?

Cheers

Re: Major PS3 Problem

You can copy your game saves onto any external USB stick from the XMB menu off your Old PS3 and can copy it back to your new one.

have you got any sound?

on your new ps3 count the number of clicks (as if you are scrolling through the XMB screen .....)
until, you get the backup section....
and then count and work your way thro and do a back up off the old ps3......

a may take some time about an hour and half to do a back up ......

so just leave it for 2 hours and you should be ok.....

and then transfer the data from one to the other...

Re: Major PS3 Problem

Nope, no sound either.

I've got some older backup data which I'm loading onto it now, see how much it gets me.

Ahh well, I'm sure I'll work something out eventually.

Cheers lads

Re: Major PS3 Problem

Yeah I didn't realise I've got 90% of my saves from when I did a backup about 2 months ago to stop the PS3 freezing, so not all is lost.

Only UFC is missing really, the only others are Ghostbusters and Motorstorm 2, but I only started them yesterday anyway! So its all good. I'll probablky get a shock when I realise how many more I'm missing

I've had to use that technique before to get to the language settings on my ipod when my mate changed it to some obscure non-latin alphabet language 'for a laugh'!

Should work great, just make sure you get the presses exactly right and you're sorted.
