Why is FIFA so graphically inferior to the American EA Sports games?

EA Sports Madden/NHL/NBA 2010 visuals are fantastic.
FIFA 2010 visuals just haven't improved much for years. Do EA just not cater for us 'Europeans' cos they know we'll buy FIFA by the truckload regardless of what it looks like?

Please tell me it's something technical as my 'next gen' machine is wondering whether it should have mediocre looking games put in it!

You're right, the FIFA games simply don't look nearly as good as EA's American sports titles but I don't really mind as long as the gameplay improves year on year, and this year they seem to have done that, even if the graphics haven't come on that much. That said, some of the animations in FIFA 10 are pretty impressive.
