Madden 10 - Play & Help Thread

Picked this up yesterday, and after an exhausting 6 hour session until 4am this morning, can comfortably say this has been the first Madden for a couple of years to grab my attention and hold it for such a long initial period. Normally it takes me a good while to break through the niggles with the new game (why did they change this etc...) but - whilst not perfect - this game is a clear step-up from Madden09. The game speed (which is adjustable) is a lot slower, which makes it the most realistic Madden in years, and the different player stats make a HUGE difference this year - playing with the same team my QB got injured and it had to completely change the plays I picked due to the different strengths of each player - it's NEVER been this noticeable before.

Niggles - Online Franchise seems to be a CHARGED FOR feature...***?

Also, the breakdown of changes in the Madden IQ, and seeing your profile stats and achievements, seems to have completely dissapeared, unless I am missing something???

Only had time to play a couple of games last night, so still only "early impressions".

I've been disapointed with the last couple of next gen versions but this is a definite improvement. However, my 2 main gripes with the last 4 or 5 versions are still present here:

1. Still too many 1 or 2 play TD drives by the CPU. In my first game (Denver @ SF) the Broncos had 2 80yd TD passes and a 100yd TD on a kickoff return. On both passing plays I was in a 3 deep zone but the receiver still managed to take a short pass and run completely untouched 60 or 70 yards to the endzone.

2. Your QB still seems to get pressurized a lot quicker than the CPU QB does, although not as badly as in recent versions.

I should qualify these "complaints" by saying that I only ever play as the 49ers, so it's maybe just the fact that they suck so badly!!!!

It's a known problem, they missed the registration codes off the back of the manuals apparently

You can either ring EA support or go tohttp://support.electronicarts.co.uk and select "contact us", select Madden NFL and "Registration/Product Activation"

Include the email address linked to your EA account and your Gamertag/PSN ID and they'll sort it.

That may well have something to do with it, I played as the 49ers last night and got hammered (I'm ususally pretty rubbish anyway, to be honest, but not normally that bad).

I'll try a different team tonight and see if that's any better.

I was so not gonna buy this until I was sure but you know what I did yesterday

I've not had time to do more than boot it up and have 5 mins so no comments yet but I'll play it tomorrow (we're out today)

I'm encouraged though as reports are non to shabby.

I'm really enjoying the running game, I'm struggling a bit with my passing though. My quick passes are getting me by right now.

Also I've returned three kick off returns for touchdowns, that's a first for me.

Good luck with that. I spent about 40 minutes on Saturday night trying to set up a game with someone on my friends list. We couldn't get beyond the loading screen.

You'll find a lot of tips on the Xbox 360 thread. They apply to the PS3 version just the same.

Anyone else having problems with the game hanging after you complete a match and want to go back to the calendar screen to complete that week's fixtures ?

I'm in my first season of 'be a superstar', as an MLB. I got drafted by the Chiefs (thus ending my superstar chances), and am starting - and doing OK with 31 tackles, 2 sacks and a FR and blocked FG, despite the Chiefs being rubbish and currently 1-5.

Problem I have is that on a few occasions, once the game is over and I attempt to exit to the main screen, the game hangs at the 'loading' screen. I've tried cleaning the disk, but has anyone else had this issue ?

Why oh Why do EA thinks it's "ok" to "update" their game with a patch that adds the opportunity to pay more money for more bloody features when they can't even be bothered to fix the fact that the game crashes randomly on the loading screen after a match

I will happily admit that my massive frustration comes from the fact that I have just had a 4th quarter come from behind victory in the last 2 minutes which is the reason I am so upset by this but it really is a joke. They have all year to program this game and manage to leave in serious bugs like this.

The game crashing when something odd happens I can understand and somewhat accept (At the end of the day they can't test everything) but having it crash (quite regulary) at the loading screen after a match has finished should of been seen and sorted long before the game came to market.

How can you enjoy playing a season on this when you don't know when it's going to go.

So ****** off right now

Strange....I haven't experienced any crashes at all this year.

You are definitely one the lucky ones. Had the same thing happen tonight after comng back from 10 points down with 10 minutes to play as well

Just ordered this for £23 off amazon - hoping it is an improvement on 09 which left me a little underwhelmed. If anybody is up for a game and is as bad as me would be happy to oblige once my game arrives.

Well, this arrived yesterday (surprisingly quickly, post strike considered). Initial impressions are that graphically it is an improvement. Game speed seems more natural, but bit to early to offer additional comment. What I do not like is that it would appear that I am expected to pay to unlock all the game modes, which I find unacceptable, but that is the way of the world now I guess.

Anyway, if anybody fancies a game and are as equally bad as me then feel free to add me - tag is robbyspurs
