Newbie tips and advice

i've only brought this game yesterday and think it's amazing.

i'm sure it's going to take me many hrs to learn the map. Something i'm looking forward to. Yet in parts for a newbie it can be very overwhelming.

So my question is to you burnout junkies what tips and advice can you offer?

Re: Newbie tips and advice

Best advice I think and prob what annoys most people about newbies is the online freeburning sessions.
So basically, when free burning online, try and do the challenges (scrolling across the bottom of the screen) or at worst, just try and follow everybody else (especially the yellow guy/host).

Oh yeah, and finally, don't spend the whole time crashing into people to take them down. It's prob ok first couple of times but I've been burning with some people that are bent on taking you down over and over and over again!! Get's a bit annoying after a while.

Apart from that, enjoy the game!! I'll be online tonight so feel free to give me a shout

that would really hack me off. The same way ppl just bash out the same fighting move (high kicks) on online fighting games untill they win.

cheers for that and i'll drop you a add request later

Re: Newbie tips and advice

Hey! I just got this game today too. Have rented it before on the 360 but bought it for the PS3 mainly for trophy junkie reasons. Is a good laugh though and wouldn't mind someone to play it with (have never done any of the online stuff before).

Re: Newbie tips and advice

I would suggest doing as much offline as you can... it will get you used to the cars the handling and short cuts/routes ... online is great but some people are wary of newbies (mainly as they are trying to complete all the online challenges) and they will kick you out fast .

When driving offline if you get a new car then change into it and try to find the burning route for it, winning this gives you a "hot" version of it. Its good to try and get this one asap as it gives you a good understanding of the various cars you can drive, and its needed when you get your ELITE license later on.

When you do races pick a car that your happy with .. the computer racers are matched to your car, so picking the fastest car you have doesn't make it that much easier as the computer racers will be similar spec too. I used one car for each of the different types of races as I used to like the handling of it

Lastly add all the guys in these threads to your friends list and join in when we are online ... I promise not to kick you out, like I did to Monty once

Re: Newbie tips and advice

Get to know your way around Paradise City. It doesn't take too long to have a basic understanding of the city's layout, after about 15 hours of gameplay I started to build up knowledge of the city, and now, I've roughly played for 50 hours, and I know the city like the back of my hand
Yes, go on, call me sad

Re: Newbie tips and advice

Agree with BT@home, do as much offline as possible. When you're doing races offline don't be too worried about driving as fast as you can, if you don't crash you should win. I found it handy to use the cars you're racing against as guides, especially in the races where you're not sure which route to take.

And when you're online, if there's not much happening just drive around, the sooner you know the map without thinking about it the more you'll enjoy the game.

You can't turn it off, however what I do is as soon as I see it load, I press circle and that asks me if I want to close the web browser, and then just press X to confirm.
Quicker than waiting for it to load and choosing the exit option

Re: Newbie tips and advice

As mentioned, learning the city is takes a while but is worth the effort. Play offline for a bit until you know what's what and then try to join in with some freeburn challenges online.

A good way to start is grab a friend and blast through all of the 2 player challenges. If you complete 2 sets of challenges (i.e. all 2 player and all 3 player) it unlocks you a car.

The online challenges are a good way to discover locations and they take you to the popular stunt places like the quarry and the airfield.

One tip I do have is for stunt runs. Ignore the time that is set, as long as you keep the 'pie' from filling then you can carry on until you crash. A tap of the boost button will reset a filling pie and using this method you can get to one of the main stunt areas (or even all of them) from any of the stunt runs in the city.

Another tip is with the car parks. There are normally a couple of smashes, billboards or super jumps accessable from the top of each car park. When you first visit a car park try to clear all of the stuff near it before going onto the next one, it saves hassle later on when you are trying to find collectables that you may have missed.

haha, same for me. I think I had the game for about 2 months before playing it online. If you (or anybody else for that matter) needs a hand give me a shout. I can help with online challenges & if there are any billboards you can't get I can show how (I've fully completed the game on 2 different accounts now lol)

Re: Newbie tips and advice

Just wanted to chime in & give 1 tip that I learned & still tell everyone who is having a hard time...

When going online... the Vegas (either one) is the BEST car IMO to take... it is easy to control & it FLIES!! So jumping threw the hoops or threw the hole on the mountain.. No problem!!

Yes it is not very fast.. but it works great & I highly recommend it ;-)

.......

Now... if they would fix the glitch where I dont have half my trophys... If I delete my saved game & redo them... I would have to get all of the billboards, gates & Class D license all over again!!

um. Not..

Hopefully they will have a patch soon...

you don't have to delete your save and redo everything though..

just move your save game to a flash drive, delete it from the PS3, start again, when you have all the trophies you couldnt get from your current save then just move your original save game back onto the PS3 and you're back where you were!

not a perfect solution but it beats re-do-ing the whole game (although, like wingsurfer I've completed the game on another account too...It's fun driving through the city and seeing all the billboards in their original condition!.)

Being forced to re-do everything, i'd forgotten how much fun the offline game is. Even if you'd completed the offline game ages ago i'd recommend starting from scratch again, its fun driving through a pristine Paradise. I'm taking extra special care going through smashes so i can keep as many gates up as i can for as long as possible!

Got my elite license back and am about 8 showtimes away from 100%. Thank god for chest infections, without it i'd still be getting my burnout license!

Oh, and Newbie tips and advice - Back up your game save!
