Four more updates incoming

Checked out CriterionGames.com recently? You might have noticed that they've completely revamped the site. Not only does it look swish and sexy, but it harbors some interesting information about upcoming Burnout Paradise content. You know, that game which came out in January but which people are still playing today? The game that's had copious amounts of free downloadable expansions and which was the first third party disc-based title to patch in trophies?

Four new expansions are listed on the "coming soon" section of the new Criterion Games website. While at the moment they're simply numbered packs, they will be unveiled, one by one, over the next four fridays, starting on October 31st. The only other information we're given about these packs is that we expect to see them arrive in Spring 2009. So after all this year's great games are played and forgotten, we're convinced we'll still be playing Burnout Paradise well after a year since release.

Can't wait to see what these updates will be. You'll probably have to pay but I'd be more than willing to with all the support Criterion have shown.

The fact they all will arrive in spring makes me think some of them will be paid for.... the island will probably be free then it will be maybe extra packs of cars and bikes you can buy? there's still the planes they were playing around with but other than who knows..... at least we won't have to wait long to find out.

Re: Four more updates incoming

Does this mean the Island pack is #4 ?? Thought it was supposed to be out soon rather than Spring '09 !!

It would be a big problem for them to charge for these as online play would be very fragmented with people upgrading/not upgrading. Easiest for them (in terms of testing costs) would be to give them away, they are getting great marketing buzz from these free packs and its keeping this game going for alot longer than normal. I read somewhere that this is a marketing promotion for them, stopping people trading the game by giving new content every few months .. it certainly seems to be working.

And the info is live::: Paid for content guess was the winner...

Burnout™ Paradise Party
Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:29:35 GMT

We're finally ready to unveil the first in a wide range of new Burnout Paradise content for 2009.

Our first pack of the year will be called Burnout™ Paradise Party.

Burnout Paradise is an awesome social game, but the action's all online. With Party, we wanted to create something for when all the players are in one place – gathered around a single screen.

Fans of the classic Crash Mode from Burnout 2: Point of Impact will know that this is not the first time we've done something like this. And we hope the response to Party is as warm as it was for Crash mode.

So, if you like to get together and play games, it's time to break out the drinks, party hats and balloons!

Now you can enjoy Burnout Paradise in a completely new way.

1. Get together with up to 7 friends and gather round a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Here you can see us lining up for a little Halloween-themed fun with Burnout Party. You can see the full session in our latest Crash TV video podcast - it's The Halloween Special!

2. Start Burnout Paradise and get the Party Pack update from the Store or Xbox Live

3. Pause to admire the excellent new Party Edition visuals and atmosphere! We've overhauled not just the presentation screens but also the in-game visuals, which are now brighter and more colourful in recognition of Burnout's new party theme.

4. Select 8-player party and get ready for the action.

5. It's pass-the-pad, so you'll only need one controller to play, no matter how many players are involved!

6. The game selects a player at random and drops them into Paradise with a simple, fun challenge to complete.

Land a barrel roll!

Survive racing oncoming traffic

Race a circuit of the dirt track in the best possible time

There are 3 types of challenge to take on – Stunt, Speed and Skill. Stunt involves jumps and tricks. Speed features quick time trials and timed challenges. Skill includes racing through oncoming traffic and drifting your car.

7. Pick up the winner and run around cheering / commiserate the loser

8. Give it another go! Don’t forget, there are extra trophies and achievements available within this pack.

You'll be able to purchase this awesome premium Burnout Paradise content from February 2009.

Burnout™ Paradise The Ultimate Box
Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:29:21 GMT

This year, we've transformed Burnout through downloadable content. We've already released our codenamed Cagney and Bikes packs, loaded with amazing new gameplay and for the first time ever: motorcycles! We've also just announced our awesome Party Pack. You can read about it today on this very blog.

These innovations are all available to existing Burnout Paradise players. (Cagney and Bikes are FREE right now! Party will be available in Feb '09.)

But, if you haven't got Burnout Paradise or you're not an online-connected player, we wanted to give you the chance to join in the fun!

So, today we're announcing Burnout™ Paradise: The Ultimate Box – a new packaged game for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and for the first time ever – on the PC! That's right, PC players will finally be able to experience a Burnout game, and we've been working hard to make sure it's something very special indeed.

The Ultimate Box will be available in Feb 2009 and will contain the original Burnout Paradise, including Codenamed Cagney and Burnout Bikes, and also Burnout Paradise Party plus a mountain of new refinements.

Burnout™ Paradise The Ultimate Box PC game dated
Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:29:07 GMT

Amidst all the excitement of today's Party Pack and Ultimate Box announcements (check them out here on the blog), we almost overlooked the fact that we're giving you lots more information on the PC game, so here 's a quick post for PC fans looking forward to a little Burnout action.

We can finally announce that the game will be made available at the same time as the console versions of Burnout™ Paradise The Ultimate Box in Feb 2009. It will feature all the same content - that means a radically enhanced Burnout Paradise plus Cagney, Bikes and Party packs.

If you've missed our previous posts, head over to the PC home page for an up-to-date summary of everything we've announced so far.

Burnout™ Paradise Network
Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:28:49 GMT

We're working hard to get closer to our fans this year.

We've already invited many to join us here at CriterionGames for a tour of the studio and a chance to meet the Burnout team. We introduced a blog and an in-game news service, so we could deliver all the latest Burnout news direct to the people that matter most, and we're bringing you all the latest information on what we're building and why, as we go about bringing Burnout Paradise the greatest online support for a game ever.

Now, we're making use of Sony's incredible in-game PlayStation 3 browser to go a step beyond.

We're taking the existing Burnout Live News Page and revolutionising it using the PlayStation browser to bring you a massively upgraded news service, enhanced social play and much, much more – the result is something we're calling the Burnout Paradise Network.

We're looking forward to bringing you more information on this in the new year.

Re: Four more updates incoming

I can't believe people are already complaining that it's going to be paid-for DLC!

Remember that the Bike Pack was going to be paid for but they decided to make it free, which was really good of them. For the sheer amount of support that Criterion have given this game over the past few months, I'm more than happy to shell out a few quid for something that's going to expand the lifespan even more and get some mates over to play it etc...

Kudos to Criterion for all the free gubbins they've put in... The trophy pack frustrated a lot of people initially but it's certainly given me a lot more playtime from the game! They've shown the commitment to the game and continued to improve it, which is more than can be said for other developers!

I would actually pay for a online/trophy pack, this one just seems a little out of place for a paid for content.

The island is still part of this years releases, the party update is for next year that's why it wasn't mentioned.

Have to say the party pack doesn't interest me that much, i'll give it a miss.

I think the opposite really... The online updates should really be free, as everyone connecting will be getting them... I'd feel a bit aggrieved if someone charged for a trophy pack personally... Obviously this all depends on pricing, but I wouldn't mind paying a few quid to have the ability to have a few mates over and have a bit of a 'party' going on...

very talented developers like these deserve our support & as mentioned above the excellent bikes update was free so everyone should be grateful for this as not many devs would give you anything free.

So what do you reckon the other cars are....

My best guesses are...

Cavalry Bootlegger = Dukes of Hazard's General Lee
Manhattan Spirit = Ecto1 from Ghostbusters
GT Nighthawk = KITT from Knight Rider.....

This could be awesome.....

that would be my guess as well, i hope the Ecto1 has the siren and flashing lights that would be cool, i also wonder if the knight rider one will have turbo boost for jumping over other cars, and a super pursuit mode..

I wonder if they will add a TV themed bike as well the only one i can think of is street hawk if any one remembers it, would be a good excuse to give the bike boost to reach the incredible speeds of 300MPH. 3- 2 -1 hyper thrust

Re: Four more updates incoming

I reckon they will be full size cars but just the cartoon/toylike look to them.

Re: Four more updates incoming

Time for the latest update:

---------------------------------------------------------

Today, we’re announcing the incredible new Carson Extreme Hotrod

We’ll be back in the New Year with all the details on this powerhouse racer, but for now we’re keeping it under wraps. We could tell you that it’s the fastest car in Paradise City – a stripped down, ultra low, overpowered straight line monster. We could talk about its roots in American Rat Rod culture and it’s wildly exaggerated Hot Rod features, based on a ‘20s Roadster. We could explain that we’ve rewired Burnout’s vehicle dynamics system, so it handles more intuitively and drifts more realistically than any other car. We could reveal that it’s the first of a pack of 2 cars designed to re-imagine Burnout Boost. Which explains the blue exhaust flames. We could do all that, but we don’t want to give away too much. For now, all you really need to know is that this car will give you the ride of your life and in early 2009 you will NEED to own it.
The Carson Extreme Hotrod. Light the touch paper and hang on for dear life. We’ll be back with movies, screens, more info and interviews with the creators on this and the “other” boost car that will be available to buy as part of our Burnout™ Paradise Boost Specials Pack in 2009. Just check back to www.criteriongames.com or Crash TV for all the latest. Next week. Big Surf.

------------------------------------------------

My reaction to this is a resounding.... meh........ the new boost class could be good but that car looks awful.....
