Burnout Bikes (Davis) To be FREE!

Word around paradise was that the bikes part of the next update, Codename : Davis, Was going to be Paid For DLC.

However, now it seems that it will be a totally FREE update instead!

This article was posted on the PS Blog by one of the Criterion Crew.

Paradise City Choppers, Burnout’s Bikes
+ Posted by Jeremy Chubb // Producer, Criterion Games

It’s the big one.

A huge week here at Criterion Games. We’re just adding the finishing touches to the Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack and wanted to reveal a little about what’s coming.

For the first time ever in a Burnout game, you’ll be able to ride motorcycles.

It’s a huge step for us here on the Burnout team, but this year’s all about changing Burnout in a BIG way through continued support. In July, we brought you our Cagney Feature Pack and introduced 3 awesome online game modes, two great cars, a live news page and calendar, 70 all-new timed multi-part challenges, a complete overhaul of our Online Racing System and a stack of other major improvements. In early September, we’re breaking out the big guns.

Here’s what Burnout Paradise players can look forward to, when they get the FREE Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack next month. (This is the pack formerly know by the codename “Davis”.)

We’ve got two rides ready to go – Day 1. Just head for your nearest junkyard in Paradise City to pick up the FV1100 street bike and the stunning Japanese Firehawk racing bike. That’ll do for a start, but there’s more in store once you’ve played a little way through the bike-specific gameplay. We’ll bring you more on these vehicles in a future post.

From the second we added the first prototype bike, we wanted to cruise the streets of Paradise City at night. So, in addition to the bikes, we’re adding night to the game. You’ll see day cycle through to night and see the city change with it. Paradise City takes on a life of its own once the rush hour traffic thins out!

During the day, you can play a variation of our Burning Routes challenges. Beat the target times on specific routes to complete “Burning Rides”. The big change here is that these routes feature multiple checkpoints – they’ll take you all over the city. At night, complete a different set of routes – the “Midnight Rides”.

If you’re used to seeing Paradise City swathed in blazing sunshine, you’re in for a surprise. We’ve also introduced a dynamic weather system to change the feel of the city – another Burnout first.

And that’s not all.

We’ve created 70 challenges specially for bikes. 35 of these are timed, multi-part challenges – the kind you’ll have experienced if you’ve been playing last month’s FREE software update codenamed Cagney.

We said we’d support Burnout fans 100% this year. We’re passionate about doing just that. The most radical changes to Burnout since we began the series are coming this year. Support for a game through DLC has never been this good. For more detail, hit http://www.criteriongames.com and for a great look at how we’re working check us out on Crash TV – our video podcast.

Burnout Paradise. Always changing.
I seriously cannot wait for this update, bikes in burnout is going to be awesome.

Re: Burnout Bikes (Davis) To be FREE!

Wow didn't expect them to change it for a free release great news,

As far as i'm aware the bikes and cars are seperate from each other so you cant takedown a guy on a bike in a burnout van etc, although i do remember them saying in a podcast thet they may put them together at a later date.

Re: Burnout Bikes (Davis) To be FREE!

Oh... how will that work then?

Will they have bikes and cars on the same map but takedowns disabled? Or a separate server for the bikes so you can only join them if you're riding a bike? Or am I being dense here? (most likely).

All that is known is that it's coming, no date yet but i'm guessing it will be part of the update with the Bikes etc could be one of the reasons why it's changed to a free update.

Hopefully early September for the new update. The update is in final stages of testing etc.

Sadly the trophies are not part of this update they will be in the next update which work has already begun on. October/November time for this update?

It's still in testing they don't give a date until Sony have tested it themselves and given it the all clear.

Re: Burnout Bikes (Davis) To be FREE!

My guess is we wont get an actual release date until the all clear has been given from both Sony and Microsoft.

I doubt criterion want another "cagney" after all the fuss it caused on their forums with the 360 owners having to wait a few weeks more than the ps3 owners.

Bike Pack Release Date Here!

Finally, a release Date!

Criterion Games dates Burnout Bikes...and it's NEXT WEEK!

We're finally able to announce that our latest free downloadable Burnout pack bikes will be out 18th September!!!

It's tough to give specific dates on downloadable content, because we don’t know for certain until the last minute. But hey, we're really excited about bringing bikes to Burnout, so we're going to take a chance and tell you that we're aiming for September 18 – that's this coming Thursday!

If you missed our earlier posts, here's what's coming:

* Pick from 2 motorcycles featuring male or female characters and start on a whole new progression to earn your Bike License.
* 38 new against-the-clock race events – Burning Ride and Midnight Ride.
* A brand new in-game 24 hr day / night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events. (It's fully customisable – you can make it day/night/change the clock speed – it's up to you.)
* Dynamic weather brings an all-new look to Paradise City
* And if that's not enough, we've got 70 more Freeburn Challenges too

Freeburn is Burnout’s uninterrupted drop-in / drop-out online play. It’s a cool collaborative experience, so it's all about hanging out with your friends, messing around in vehicles while racing, pulling tricks and crashing in a massive open world city.

If 350 fun, co-operative challenges aren’t enough to keep you and your friends occupied, the Bike Pack throws a further 70 to the mix. These bike-exclusive challenges are split 50:50 between regular challenges and timed, against-the-clock challenges for those that enjoy a little more intensity.

We've got more detail on bikes in our latest video podcast – Crash TV. You can see it now on iTunes.

Next week, we're talking trophies.
Cant wait!

Sweet. My 10 year old daughter plays this game a lot. She likes the free roam aspect of just being able to drive round the city. Adding bikes in is cool move. Can't wait for the rumoured planes.

LOL! I'm just watching my nine year old doing the exact same thing.
She's even stopping at red lights

All these updates by Criterion are a smart move I bet the second hand market for this game is the smallest of all PS3 games.
I'd never get rid of mine.

I must say i have never seen a pre owned copy on the shelf at my local game or game station, says it all really, shame other developers don't have as much commitment to their games.

I reckon Criterion have immense opportunities here to extend this game to include any genre of motorised vehicle racing. Bikes, planes, boats and other aquatic vehicles etc etc. the possibilities are endless.

Regarding the bike pack my only hope is that the servers at Criterion dont overload and crash due to the huge numbers of people tring to download the bike pack.
