re: The Playstation Network Weekly Update Thread - Part 2

The Japanese Store has been updated. Highlights (from memory):
  • Yakuza 3 demo, along with two lengthy videos in the same category if you haven't seen them.
  • Noby Noby Boy is up for Y800 (£5.94).
  • WipEout HD costumes for LittleBigPlanet
  • Fl0wer theme
  • Something to do with Resident Evil 5 (a video, perhaps?) but I have no interest in that game at all so didn't take a look.
  • Various other bits and pieces...

Enjoy

They're actually pretty swish, if a bit weird. Each one has a helmet and outfit which makes it look like your sackboy is sitting in a sled.

FYI: No Gravity hits PSN next week worldwide
by Majed Athab { Feb 19th 2009 at 2:00PM }
---
The space shooter No Gravity: The Plague of Mind is lining up its guns and aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release in North America, Europe and Asia next week. On Thursday, February 26, the downloadable PSP title will be available on the PlayStation Store for $9.99 (NA), £9.99 (UK) and €9.99 (Continental Europe).

No Gravity boasts 31 levels of "hazardous" combat, along with unlockable goodies, five playable characters and five different ships to pilot. So, who's suiting up and ready to blast some aliens?

[Update: added in some fresh new screen shots and a brand new trailer. Enjoy!]

Vote with your wallet. If nobody buys it they'll eventually lower the price in a promotion.

It seems to work both ways. I bought SSFIITHDR from the HK Store for under £6, it's £11.99 on our Store. Similarly I bought Noby Noby Boy for £3.19 yesterday from our Store when it's £6 on the Japanese Store

And to be honest, its getting that way.. PSN games for < £5 can be a bit of a no-brainer.. But when they start costing almost £10 (and more), I can't see many people buying them.

At the end of the day, you can buy Little Big Planet for less than £15 these days... Unless a PSN game is 'retail quality' I question how many people are going to pay the sort of money they are asking!!

Personally, I think that all PSN games (unless they are also available as retail (i.e Warhawk, GT5P, Burnout) should be 'capped' to make the cheap/spontanious purchases!

Its basic economics really.. Since a PSN game has almost zero cost to Sony and/or the Developers, why charge £10 and sell 100 copies, when they can charge £1 and potentially sell 10000.. Whilst they are making less per individual sale, they can make may times more, because they are selling to more people...

They cheaper a game gets, the more people buy it and the more money they make.. If I were a PSN developer, I would much rather my game was sold cheaply to the masses, than expensivly to a few die hard fans!

Jon

PSN games actually do require significant budgets.

Besides, to use your example, I'm sure they'd rather sell 100 copies at £10, and then sell another 9,900 copies at £1 after reducing the price

I agree they do have budgets.. But once the title is finish, there are near zero costs to distribute.

This is why I am strugging to understand the current pricing concept.... Why sell a few at a high price, when you can sell loads if you charge less.

You are right about when you say that its even better to sell it high first and then reduce the price, but to my knowledge, there are NO examples of this so far.. Only last week I decided to buy Bowling and Poker.. Even though these are no longer popular and are over a year old, I still had to pay £4.99 and £7.99...

Sony really need to wake up.. If they started to reduce the prices of the older games, surely many people would still buy them?

Some would argue HD Remix is retail quality....even despite it's age is still one of the top 2d fighters and only bettered by it's newer brother in 4.

re: The Playstation Network Weekly Update Thread - Part 2

"PlayStation(r)Home" gets an update to version 1.11 today & the US Home environment is scheduled to receive the "Warhawk Command Center".

The SingStore updates are typically every 2 or 3 weeks anyway. It is a bit lame quoting them as part of the weekly update.

I guess nobody is trying too hard to impress today due to "Killzone 2" (all three of my pre-orders arrived before 12noon today!).

The only reason "Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X" is there is because it was put back from the week before last. Good job it was really.

I have the "Guitar Hero World Tour" title but I've never found anything worthy of my virtual wallet funds.

BFN,

fp.
