Home - Was it worth the wait?

Bought my PS3 on launch day and been waiting patiently for HOME for what seems like forever, i appreciate that it is probably still a work in progress but from what you have seen so far was it worth the wait and how do you rate SONY's new online gaming community?

I am yet to download it!

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

I have to say whats the point .. it wants to be facebook but its not, it wants to be a fancy games lobby but its not BUT it wants to BE A REVENUE STREAM which it will.

Benn a beta tester and well it looks nice but thats it, you see groups when you go up to them its a like a pack of dogs after one woman LOL ...

its not something that will capture me for very long periods at a time, when i use my PS3 its to play games not home

oh well

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

It's free, mildly interesting to someone who has not had any 2nd life-type experience BUT...

I feel sorry for all the people that will throw their cash at it once the store opens and they start buying stuff for their virtual apartment etc.

I like my minmalist apartment. If only I could throw the odd table and chair over the balcony I would give it a higher rating

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

I voted Average - to me it'll be a pre-game lobby. You want to play something with clanmates, go into home at say 8:30, kick about and people will dribble in, so you get a chance to socialise, everyone finally arrives at 9:05, so you form into a group and jump into a game together.

Of course only Warhawk allows this so far, but for me this is what i expect, and its no worse than the lobby system in Monster Hunter of Phastasy Star Online. Good for time wasting when you're not playing a "proper" game, but not a serious thing to sink time into.

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

The poll and the fact its the exact same set of options as a Game's review shows a complete lack of understanding of Home. I refuse to vote.

seeing as this is like 1% of the finished product, could you not vote on the potential of HOME rather than write it off straight away?

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

Its all very pretty to look at but it is most certainly not 'the future of online gaming'.

It takes too long to load for a start - I just dont see the point in loading up home then loading up another area so I can meet up with my friends, then type a message out so that we can play game x .

What is wrong with a lobby accessed instantly on the xmb, where you can choose to chat to your friends and jump straight into a game?

Its okay, but I still dont see the point.

But surely, as you point out, it is this lack of understanding that will see home fail in some respects?

There seem to be a lot of people who share the same opinion that it just doesnt make sense. It is basically a 3D facebook, no matter what people like to dress it up as.

Starting out with half your audience somewhat confused as to the principle of the product you are putting out, does not make for a succesful venture (think I got that right, Im tired )

SR84 (9/10), we can't see into the future to tell if its going be a disaster or really deliver on their promises. One thing is for certain is that this poll is a terrible idea and only going to attract the moaners who can't wait to write it off as worthless.

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

Without sounding a bit harsh I thought it was a bit rubbish. The graphics are very average at best and they do stutter (well one place did).
What did surprise me was how long it has taken them to develop that. You can see why its called 'Beta'. I did expect more but maybe its just not my kinda thing.
I will give it another go maybe, but so far not so good.

I cant see how people can vote less than 5. You've had it one day, give it a chance. Alot of people thought the ps3 (lack of games) was crap when it came out. Not any more.

16 Other people dont seem to have a problem with the poll options available!

Obviously people's opnion on HOME could and probably will change over time, im just interested in people's initial thoughts and its a light hearted look at HOME and what it has to offer so far and for people to voice their opinion on.

If people want to moan then whats wrong with that, there has been a fair bit of hype surrounding this and moaning might bring up some constructive issues that need to be addressed.

I think HOME is a good idea, no need to use up hard drive space for demos/clips when you can see them on HOME. Lets be positive

But it reserves 3044mb (3gig) of space on the hard drive for saving things and probably caching all the demos/clips that you see in Home

Well i think it's very boring. It just seems a very long winded way to advertise films, games, and talk to people.

Obviously they will change it, but how much better that will make it i'm not sure.

Took 2 hours to download initially and since then I have never been able to sign onto it.
Keep getting "Connection to the server was lost" or "Unable to download content" whatever that means.
Okay its a trial but at least have a trial that works

Re: Home - Was it worth the wait?

It's quite average and a bit dull, i can't see why it's taken Sony so long to get it out of the door (even in a beta form). I will give it a bit of time to see how it develops though, but for now it's not going to compete with XBL until Sony perfect Home.

I own all 3 consoles, and i don't give a monkeys about which system is better (it's a rather pointless debate, it's all down to personal preferences). I love my Xbox 360, my PS3 and my Wii. Nothing else matters.
