Home Opening at Midday Today

The rumour over on the sixthaxis is that home is opening today at 12:00

(that's in ten minutes time

)

looks like the servers aren't up yet so I went back to the sixthaxis and found this update

apparently so, I got the beta test invite on 29.11.08! was well happy, it is very good, only it is still very much work in progress, no lag or connection issues, just not much there, bowling alley, home square(with chess and draughts) and shopping centre, all good so far, and the potential is there for so much!

good luck getting it today!

Got the 1.03 update... hung on "Initialising"... then crashed out..

Still, big praise to Sony for getting this out (eventually) and it being free too.

As Benchy says, this will change the face of online consoles forever and the possibilities are endless for Home.

by the sounds of it - no, but the only way I can think that they could do this is, is to have all ready put it there in a previous update, and all they are going to do is send some sort of code to our PS3's to make it visible?

No, it shows under the blue circular network section once you install the download from the store

Thats what I thought but re-reading that Tedthedog post it looks like it is already on everyone's xmb and just hidden.....

Looks like the sneaky gits have already stuck Home on everyone's PS3 in a past fw update

when you wack on your ps3 it checks for fw updates etc in the background. It goes to some page and if the correct boxes are ticked (so to speak) then it fetchs the image etc and you can download it.

that would make sense takes some pressure off the servers when it does go live...

couldnt agree more. after all, have you tried 2nd life?

a free update is always good, but i would sacrifice all of this for the efficientcy/robustness/integration that microsoft have built into xbox live in a second.

so what will happen to us guys in the beta then, will we have to delete the beta icon/download? and use the newly appeared icon, or will we just click on the home icon as normal but will go to new servers with the new open beta stuff?

I'm amazed at the number of people, not just in here but other places as well, that are so quick to go "Oh I don't want this, make it like Live NOW!"... It's a free update for crying out loud! And (admittedly when a lot more games support it) the game launching thing pees all over Live's party system...

Cheers for the heads up. So your saying it will just popup without downloading anything or will there be an actual update??

hmm yea good point, not wishing to stir the proverbial fanboi pot. I am a 360 and ps3 owner and badly want the ps3 fullfil some potential, but when i switch between consoles, cant help but feel let down with the online stuff.

Am hoping Home will go some way to this, but the killer app on any format, rarely exists.

no flames please, not wishing to start an argument!
